They were never meant to survive.

Six years before the Day of Reckoning, before King Cyrus, magick was forbidden. The bastard son of a tyrant ruler, Kahl Zimmerman, has now lost everything and everyone to the fear of what he is. Oracles of foresight are shunned and burned in a world surging with destitution and lies—every oracle but him. Kahl’s only hope for redemption was lost to a cruel fate, and when a group of insurgents known as the Elehites invade the city, he is determined to wreak havoc on his enemies, even if he becomes the destruction of himself.

What begins as a rebellion to save his people ends in a violent war no one can escape from. The lines between love and hate are obscure and Kahl will discover that the past…doesn’t always remain in the past. The lies run deeper, the blood flows thicker, and the name behind the true enemy is far darker than he first believed.

Well I've read all but the last 10 chapters, but I'm sure my rating of this book won't sway because I love Nadege's writing and stories! When she was considering a novella for this series, I was so on board with reading Kahl's viewpoint.

He was such a unique character in the trilogy but we never really got his story with all of the drama with Echo and Ayden. So when she asked who I thought should have a novella I was like, "KAHL!!" Even though he wasn't my all time favorite character in the series. Actually he was like an annoying gnat that wouldn't go away, but that's not the point.

This story most definitely explains Kahl's past and why he is the way he is. So much happens to him before he meets up with Echo again, and I know understand him so much better.

I know that Nadege's dedicated fans will love this new installment to the series and will be left wanting more! She's done an amazing job with this series and I wouldn't be surprised to see this series on libraries shelves, making it another dystopian hit among teens! Very happy I get the chance to work with Nadege and read her novels way before they are finished ;-)

Embracing Embers was a good read. It took me a while to get into the story because it has been a while since I’ve read the previous books so I was trying to remember what role Kahl played in them. I won’t lie; it took me a while to remember him so I recommend readers of this series read the books together. Kahl is an oracle like his mother Tacita who suffered many years of abuse from his father Gordianus. Kahl is very powerful and all he wants is him freedom but in order to be free he must escape Gordianus grasps. When it comes to his brother Vin the saying “like father, like son” applies to them. Kahl life was never easy and to be betrayed by a person he trust breaks him in more ways than one. However, the ending of the book was worth all of the suffering he went through because he was finally able to be where he always wanted to be. I highly recommend this series if you're looking for a good paranormal read.
