I always forget that in shorter series like these, the character growth is sped up to the umpteenth degree. This volume really ramped up the relationships quickly, but I’m not mad about it. If this were a show I might slow things down and give some breathing room, but I know we have limited volumes here and I can’t remember where we will end up! And all the new characters have amazing designs! I’m not sure how they managed it as it’s arguably way too many characters but I’m loving it.

Definitely better than the first volume, but the story feels really rushed.

Also, Machika is supposed to be 14 and the narrative treats her like she’s 16 at the very least. And I don’t know how feel about this.

Kaori Ozaki, Immortal Rain vol. 2 (Tokyopop, 1999)

Ozaki continues one of the best series in manga, picking up just where volume 1 left off. Machika and Rain's train is attacked by the Desert Pirates, and the two are stranded in the desert after some heroics to save the rest of the passengers. They have to neutralize the desert pirates, find some transportation, and resist the whole falling in love thing all at once. Is anyone strong-willed enough? Only one way to find out, and that's read it. Highly recommended. ****

This manga gets better and better as you read it! Reincarnation, "angels" created by an insane lunatic, and a plot that makes you keep reading to see what happens next. I haven't been this addicted to a manga in a long while. The character development is great so far, especially when it comes to Rain and the strength to protect others from Machika, and add in a guy who wants to kill every living thing on the planet?? Yeah...that makes for a good story!

On the back of the book, this book states it is a teen book.. so I warn you that there is swearing and one picutre in there that shows a picture 1/2 of a girls' anotomy.. and that's rated adult plus, but is apparent allowed for YA..

Anyways.....The ending is a cliffhanger,

When Rain and Machika's train is hijacked by desert pirates working for The Corporation, will they be able to escape with their heads? Or Rain's cherished violin? Later, we are also able to dive deeper into Sharem's psyche, her past, and her intentions.

This was a pretty good volume. And that ending. Of course it had to end that way and leads up to the next volume. Thanks for that. Anyway, like I said, pretty good volume. Got new characters in this one this time and some returnees.

The saga continues. Rain is a hilarious-yet-tragic immortal, and Machika is the girl that follows him in his quest to find the person that cursed him with immortality.
