It's going to be sh*tty at first. The belief that pure skill will take you anywhere is the lie that irks me to my core everytime I hear it. Nobody is born into the bestseller list (I promise). Refining your skill over and over and over is what makes it happen. I don't have an MFA, which is where a lot of people might learn to get messy into the scrappy hell that writing-refinery takes. I truly believe that if you're willing to seek out education to learn how to take apart your writing, even just through how-to-books and white boards, your skill will easily transcend into art. Learning how to buff your rough edges is the hardest part. The story-building is easy. So that would be my first part advice, don't let ignorance to learning put you on the bench.

Lastly I would say, While your second novel might be better than your first: share your art anyways. If you're always waiting to access a next level skill: you're going to miss the bus. Never stop making art and always be bold enough to share it. Someone needs it and you will always learn from it. It doesn't have to be a homerun the first time, because you'll be up to bat again. Trying is learning and learning is what will make us better. That's my hot take, at least. (less)

This book is so special to me because the reader is a character in the book - which is a concept I've been hoping to bring to the table for a very long time.

I'm so thankful God chose me to deliver this story in all of its murder mystery glory. I really feel lucky to have been given the opportunity to be one of the first writers to bring this concept into the literary market, as controversial as it seems to be. I know there is someone who loves a riddle as much as I do. (less)
