BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Governor Gavin Newsom announced the state's organized retail crime task force has made 1,055 arrests so far this year. In total, this task force has recovered $7.8 million in merchandise since January 2024.

In August, 171 arrests were made, and recovered $547,000 in stolen property.
This task force is being led by the California Highway Patrol and they partner with law enforcement agencies across the state.
