The Penguin (Released September 19) *Max Original

Set one week after the events of 2022 superhero film The Batman, this highly-anticipated Max Original crime drama miniseries revolves around crime lord Oswald “Oz” Cobblepot’s (Colin Farrell) rise to power as both himself and supervillain The Penguin within Gotham City’s criminal underworld. Following the death of high-powered mob boss Carmine Falcone at the hands of the Riddler, Oz makes a play to seize the reigns and fill the power vacuum by whatever means necessary, even if it means taking on Falcone’s daughter (Cristin Milioti) and son (Michael Zegen).

My Brilliant Friend: Season 4 (Released September 9) *HBO Original

The HBO Original coming-of-age drama series adapted from Elena Ferrante’s novel series is coming to an end. September marks the premiere of My Brilliant Friend‘s fourth and final season that will span 10 episodes to wrap up the 60-year story of how Elena Greco (Alba Rohrwacher) came to know and be forever changed by the most important friend of her life, Raffaella “Lila” Cerullo (Irene Maiorino). Season 4 takes a look at Elena and Lila’s adult lives balancing motherhood, careers, natural disasters, and more, all while living through the tumultuous violence and social turmoil of late 1980s Italy.

Want something to look forward to? Max’s schedule this year is stacked with premieres. We’re particularly excited for one big-name title that is premiering on Max within the next few months:

Dune: Prophecy **(Released November 2024) *HBO Original**

Later this year, you can look forward to the highly-anticipated prequel of hit 2021 film Dune that takes place 10,000 years before the rise of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet). Dune: Prophecyis an HBO Original sci-fi series that centers on the origins of the powerful and fabled sect that would come to be known as the Bene Gesserit. But before they’d earned that title, the group began with sisters Valya (Emily Watson) and Tula Harkonnen (Olivia Williams) as they attempted to fight forces that endanger the future of humanity. See it all go down as soon as it premieres this November, only on HBO and Max.
