Emily Gold, a high school student who competed on the current season of America’s Got Talent, has died. She was 17 years old.

The Los Osos High School cheerleader was reportedly found dead under a bridge on the 210 freeway in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. on Friday (Sept. 13). TMZ reports that her death is being investigated as a suicide.

Gold competed on AGT this year with her high school dance troupe. The team made it all the way to the quarterfinals until they were eliminated in an episode that aired this past August.

In their final performance on the show, the team performed a spirited routine to “Fergalicious” and “Pump It” that earned resounding applause from the audience and a standing ovation from Simon Cowell himself.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for Gold’s family to cover her services and the family’s expenses for the time being as they are unable to work. The fundraiser has earned $36,983 of its $60,000 goal from over 500 donations at the time of publication.

“The family is so grateful for all that have shown love and support. Thank you!” an update on the page reads.

Per Deadline, Los Osos High School Principal Eric Cypher issued a statement to students and parents after Gold’s passing.

“I’m sorry to share tragic news with you regarding a fellow Grizzly. Early this morning, a senior and beloved Grizzly, Emily Gold, has passed away,” the statement reads. “Emily was on both our Varsity Dance Team and Varsity Cheer squad, our thoughts and prayer are with the family as they grieve.”

The school’s pep squad also shared a statement remembering their former teammate.

“Emily you are truly one of a kind. You were so adored by everyone who knew you,” the touching statement begins. “The energy that you brought to both cheer and dance was so strong and spirited, more than words could ever describe.”

“Our team will never be the same without you, Gold.”
