Cyndi Lauper was not a fan of the Girls Just Want to Have Fun movie, which was inspired by her hit song of the same name.

The singer stopped by the Bravo Clubhouse for Sunday night’s (Sept. 15) episode of Watch What Happens Live, where she played a game of “Plead the Fifth.” At one point, host Andy Cohen asked her to rank the 1985 rom-com — which starred Sarah Jessica Parker, Helen Hunt and Shannen Doherty — on a scale from one to 10.

“I actually had a fight with the producer. I didn’t want him to take my image and make some bullshit story,” Lauper said. “It was, come on. What story?”

However, Lauper pretended to like the movie when she met Hunt while guest-starring in the actress’ hit sitcom Mad About You.

“I met Helen Hunt when I did Mad About You so then I was like, ‘Yeah!’ Because she’s a great actress. And you don’t want to hurt peoples’ feelings,” Lauper said. “If they see this, I’m sorry!”

While shaking her head, she added, “But yeah, I didn’t [like the movie],” before Cohen clarified, “Lower half of one to 10.”

Elsewhere in the game, Lauper responded to Lionel Richie saying it was a mistake to choose her to sing in “We Are the World” instead of Madonna.

“I think it was a mistake not to invite Madonna,” Lauper admitted. “But they chose me to sing that spot.”

Getting to record her voice for the song seemed like a real pinch-me moment for Lauper, who said she got chosen for the part because she had a high voice.

“I stood there in that circle. You don’t know what it’s like to watch all these people — and some you grew up watching and just the greatest singers,” she recalled. “And then Steve Perry opens his mouth and then Daryl Hall and then Huey [Lewis] and then, ‘Hey you’re up, Lauper.’ I didn’t even think. I was just like, ‘Ah!’ Because I couldn’t believe it.”

Watch What Happens Live airs Sunday through Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET on Bravo. New episodes are available to stream the next day on Peacock.
