While much of New York spent Sept. 11 commemorating the anniversary of the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center, Jimmy Kimmel took a moment from his broadcast that evening to point to a “monstrous” interview Donald Trump gave when the attack occurred 23 years ago.

The late night host had spent much of his opening monologue that evening ribbing Trump for his performance at the presidential debate.

“You know you did bad at a debate when it’s 9/11 and everyone’s talking about what a disaster you were [at the debate],” Kimmel said.

And though he praised Trump and Kamala Harris for appearing together at the World Trade Center memorial in New York City in a show of “unity,” Kimmel made sure to remind the Live audience of what Trump did after the actual attacks occurred on Sept. 11, 2001.

“Donald Trump was a hero on 9/11. He called the local news to let them know he now owned the tallest building in Manhattan,” Kimmel said.

He shared a clip that showed Trump calling into a local news station and saying, “40 Wall Street actually was the second tallest building in downtown Manhattan. Before the World Trade Center, it actually was the tallest, and then when they built the World Trade Center it became the second tallest. And now it’s the tallest.”

Kimmel used it as a teaching moment.

“That’s right, never forget what a dick he is,” he said. “Because he is a monstrous person.”

Since returning from his summer hiatus, Kimmel has been relentlessly ribbing the presidential candidate ahead of the election.

He especially criticized Trump’s performance at his first presidential debate against Harris.

After sharing a clip of Trump espousing the racist conspiracy theory that there were immigrants eating cats, Kimmel asked his audience, “Imagine we’ve never heard of Donald Trump before and the first time you’ve ever seen him is during tonight’s debate.”

“What would your reaction be right now?” he asked. “The Republican party would have to close their headquarters and turn it into a Spirit Halloween store.”

Jimmy Kimmel Live airs on weeknights at 11:35/10:35c on ABC.
