Jimmy Kimmel and his fellow late night hosts appeared to have made an enemy out of former U.S. President Donald Trump.

A new report from Rolling Stone alleges Trump used Justice officials to look into how they could use campaign finance laws and the federal equal-time rule to make it illegal for Saturday Night Live, Kimmel, Stephen Colbert, and others to espouse anti-Trump material.

“According to a source with direct knowledge, Trump has raised this topic again [during his current campaign], venting about the need to punish late-night comedians for giving “illegal” campaign contributions to the Democratic Party — in the form of jokes and on-air satire,” the outlet reports.

During Monday’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, the late night host said it was “maybe the weirdest story about Trump this month” that surprisingly “involves” him.

While the crowd loudly booed when he shared the report, Kimmel exclaimed, “He wants to lock up the late night hosts! What happened to this, by the way?” He then played a sound bite of Trump saying, “Jimmy, I love you so much,” during a recent rally. (But he certainly wasn’t talking about this Jimmy.)

Kimmel had several questions about how this kind of prison sentence would work for him and his colleagues.

“How would this work for Jon Stewart?” he asked. Stewart returned to The Daily Show on Monday evenings for a short stint through the presidential election. “Would he only go to jail on Mondays? There’s a lot to figure out.”

He continued, “I’m now imagining me and all the other late night hosts in prison together, like the mobsters in Goodfellas. I’m stirring the sauce, Colbert’s slicing the garlic with a razor blade.”

Kimmel turned to his sidekick Guillermo Rodriguez and added, “Guillermo, you’re probably going in too. Bring some sausage because we’re gonna have some time on our hands.”

The damning report also notes that Trump and lawyers close to his circle “have spent more than a year researching obscure elements of the criminal code” to criminally charge the officials who brought charges against him.

Now, Trump is set to face off against current Vice President Kamala Harris in their first presidential debate this election, airing on ABC Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 9 p.m, which means Kimmel will surely have more ammo to use against the former president during Wednesday’s broadcast of Live.

Jimmy Kimmel Live airs weeknights at 11:35/10:35c on ABC.
