Hulu has done it again! Amid its continued success with The Kardashians, the streaming platform has now released its next big reality show: The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. The eight-episode series follows the young Mormon moms and wives behind #MomTok in the wake of creator Taylor Frankie Paul‘s shocking admission that she and her now ex-husband were “soft swinging” with their other Mormon pals. As Taylor works to restore her standing within the friend group, her co-star Whitney Leavitt attempts to take over her position as the leader of #MomTok. But will the ongoing drama stop Whitney from being friends with these women? And will #MomTok be able to recover from the swinging scandal? We watched the entire series — and viewers are surely in for a wild ride.

THE SECRET LIVES OF MORMON WIVES: STREAM IT OR SKIP IT?

Opening Shot: The series opens with a montage of Taylor — along with co-stars Whitney, Demi Engemann, Jessi Ngatikaura, Layla Taylor, Mayci Neely, Mikayla Matthews and Jen Affleck — giving a little background on their religion and the rules of their church that were heavily incorporated into their upbringings. They also explain the origin of #MomTok before getting into the controversy surrounding Taylor’s swinging bombshell.

The Gist: #MomTok is a group of young Mormon moms who double as content creators and influencers. After Taylor blows up their pristine reputation with her swinging scandal and her domestic violence arrest, she must work to get back on her friends’ good graces. At the same time, she’s also expecting a baby with her boyfriend Dakota Mortensen, whose fidelity is constantly coming into question.

The show also centers around six other women — some married, some divorced, some remarried — who are all working to break the gender norms within the Mormon church using their TikTok content. As Jen struggles with her husband’s controlling behavior and Taylor battles with trust issues, Whitney must own up to her husband’s Tinder scandal all while navigating her strained relationships within the #MomTok group.

What Shows Will This Remind You Of? The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives has the aesthetic of The Kardashians, the drama of a Real Housewives show and the naïveté of Teen Mom.

Our Take: The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives lives up to its reputation, keeping viewers fully hooked from start to finish. While Taylor’s swinging scandal and arrest are the initial focuses of the show, so much happens between Episode 1 and Episode 8 that you hardly remember either situation by the end of the season — although we must note that the body-cam footage from Taylor’s arrest was certainly one of the most jaw-dropping reality TV moments since Jen Shah got raided by the Feds in The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. But I digress. Throughout the series, other drama also takes centerstage, including Taylor’s trust issues with Dakota, Jen’s extremely apparent marital struggles, and Whitney’s shocking decision to leave #MomTok, to name a few.

Aside from giving insight into Mormon culture (ie: subbing soda for coffee, wearing garments and marrying young), The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives also delivers its fair share of scandal. One particularly blood-boiling moment came when Jen’s husband threatened to leave her and take away their children after she was unknowingly dragged to a Chippendales show in Las Vegas. Plus, Mayci receives a confession on social media from an anonymous woman claiming to have hooked up with Dakota while he was in a relationship with Taylor. And don’t even get us started on how mad Demi got when Whitney gifted her a box of Fruity Pebbles after the former divulged an NSFW secret involving the colorful cereal!

With all that being said, The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives is the next best reality show on streaming — and you won’t want to miss it.

Sex and Skin: Come on, people! These are Mormon mothers. There’s no sex and skin. However, there’s certainly some talk of it. So if you don’t want your kids to overhear conversations about dildos and orgasms (or lack thereof), I highly suggest saving this one for when they go to bed.

Parting Shot: After Taylor and Dakota welcome their baby boy into the world, Mayci decides that she’s going to get to the bottom of that anonymous confession we mentioned before. In her car, she decides to call Jenna — the woman Taylor once suspected Dakota of cheating on her with — to find out if she was the one who admitted to unknowingly hooking up with him while he was in a relationship. But instead of giving us the answers we need, the episode ends, thus setting the show up for a potential second season.

Sleeper Star: Demi might not be vying for the queen bee position, but she certainly keeps the storyline moving. When it comes to the Whitney of it all, Demi is one of the only ones who refuses to dance around the content creator’s feelings, calling her out for victimizing herself and even coming up with the idea for everyone to unfollow her on social media if she doesn’t show up to Mayci’s launch party.

Most Pilot-y Line: In the first few minutes of the pilot episode, Demi can be heard saying, “At this point, I’m like, can #MomTok even survive this?” While the ladies begin to come together in the following scenes, we can’t help but ask the same question when the episode ends with Taylor getting arrested.

Our Call: STREAM IT. From swinging scandals to cheating rumors, The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives is a perfectly binge-worthy series that will leave you craving more.
