The View thinks J.D. Vance is nothing but bad news for Donald Trump‘s reelection campaign, but that didn’t stop the panel from discussing the possible vice president’s latest gaffe on this morning’s show.

Moderator Whoopi Goldberg kicked off the chat by telling her co-hosts that Republicans have claimed Kamala Harris assuming the Democratic presidential ticket “doesn’t change a thing for them.”

Unfortunately, Vance seemed to contradict that at a private fundraising event over the weekend, as Goldberg pointed out. She then played audio of Vance’s remarks, which he delivered at a July 27 event in Minnesota, per The Washington Post.

“All of us were hit with a little bit of a political sucker punch. The bad news is that Kamala Harris does not have the same baggage as Joe Biden,” Vance said at the event. “Because whatever we might say, Kamala Harris is a lot younger, and Kamala Harris is obviously not struggling in the same ways that Joe Biden did.”

After the audio concluded, Goldberg admitted, “This poor guy. I feel so bad for him.”

Joy Behar jumped in to warn her, “Don’t,” but Goldberg was firm in her reply, telling her co-host, “No, no, I’m going to. I’m going to pity this man. Remember how Mr. T used to pity the fool? Well, I pity this man. I pity him, because he’s had a very bumpy roll-out so far.”

She continued, “And here he is, once again saying one thing in public and another thing in private.”

Vance has been quite the hot topic at The View since Trump officially named the Ohio politician as his 2024 running mate. On the July 16 episode of the talk show, Republican panelist and former Trump White House employee Alyssa Farah Griffin told her co-hosts that she wasn’t sure where she fit into her party anymore after Vance was added to Trump’s ticket.

“We are seeing a total realignment of Republican politics,” she said at the time. “I was watching the convention — I’m grateful Donald Trump is safe. I think it was a powerful moment to see. He survived this assassination attempt. But the policies that were espoused — Reaganism is dead.”

Griffin then added, “This is a very different party. You had the teamsters on stage. You had J.D. Vance. You had people talking about Ukraine shouldn’t be supported. It’s a really odd moment in our politics. As a Republican, I don’t even know where I fit in anymore. This certainly doesn’t bring in the Nikki Haley national security Republicans.”

The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
