Apple TV+‘s new Bill Lawrence series, Bad Monkey, kicks things off by bringing a mysteriously severed arm into the mix. So viewers can safely assume lots more compelling twists and turns await.

Based on Carl Hiaasen’s bestselling book, the 10-episode series introduced a number of jaw-dropping reveals during its two-episode August 14 premiere — several of which involve Michelle Monaghan’s character, Bonnie.

After viewers learned that Bonnie and Vince Vaughn’s Andrew Yancy used to be an item, Bad Monkey dropped a major twist at the end of Episode 2: Bonnie is wanted back in Oklahoma for sexual assault!

Turns out, Bonnie’s real name is Clover Chase. She’s a former English teacher who slept with one of her students, jumped bail, and went on the run for nine years. And she likely would have continued successfully hiding out in the Keys if Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation’s Johnna Russell (Ashley Nicole Black) hadn’t spotted her in a YouTube video of Yancy’s golf cart incident.

At the end of Episode 2, Russell gives Yancy her card and encourages him to call her with any information about Bonnie/Clover’s whereabouts. In Decider’s exclusive Bad Monkey Episode 3 clip, you’ll get your first glimpse at those whereabouts as we get eyes on Bonnie for the first time since learning her real identity.

In the 50-second teaser video above, Monaghan and Vaughn’s palpable chemistry is on full display as their characters reconnect over the phone for the first time since Bonnie skipped town. The clip shows her lounging by what appears to be a Playa Bella resort pool in a green bikini, sunglasses, and extremely fashionable hat. As she coyly tells Yancy she answers to both “Bonnie” and “Clover,” a Playa Bella employee named Ricky delivers a tropical drink to her seat and she kindly thanks him, prompting a curious Yancy to ask, “Ricky? There’s a Ricky? Can you put Ricky on?”

“Even if I did, Andrew, he’d never tell. Ricky’s good people,” Bonnie replies, carrying on another round of brilliant Bad Monkey banter.

When Yancy informs Bonnie that there’s an officer from the great state of Oklahoma looking for her, Bonnie says, “I know. Hence my reluctance to disclose my whereabouts.” While a normal person would continue pressing Bonnie for her location, Yancy simply asks, “Who says ‘hence’?” and makes sure she’s OK. In her best distressed voice, Bonnie tells Yancy she’s “getting by” as Ricky comically reappears to spray her down with suntan lotion. (He really is good people!)

Aware that she’s managing just fine on her own, Yancy finally gets to the point and says, “I never really saw myself dating a sex offender. One of your students? Seriously?” As a shocked Rosa (Natalie Martinez) listens in on Yancy’s half of the call, Bonnie tells him not to paint her student Cody as the victim, arguing, “He was three months shy of 18.” BONNIE!

Clocking Rosa’s concern, Yancy quickly brings the call to a close, saying, “Either way, it’s wrong. Either way, you shouldn’t have put yourself in or a minor in that position. I gotta go!”

Curious what happens next? You’ll have to tune into Bad Monkey Episode 3, “Nobody Said He Was Alvin Einstein” on Wednesday, August 21 to see what the future has in store for Bonnie and Yancy.

Until then, Apple TV+’s official Episode 3 synopsis is as follows: “Yancy and Rosa continue their search for more information about Nick. Caitlin confronts Eve, leading to a shocking revelation.”
