‘Inside Out 2’ Comes to Digital, But When Will ‘Inside Out 2’ Be Streaming on Disney+?

It’s time to get your emotions in check, because Inside Out 2 is releasing on digital platforms tomorrow.

Directed by Kelsey Mann, with a screenplay by Meg LeFauve and Dave Holstein, this sequel to 2015’s Inside Out once again puts audiences inside the mind of a young, emotional girl. Riley (voiced by Kensington Tallman) is going through puberty, and with these changes comes new emotions, including Anxiety (Maya Hawke), Envy (Ayo Edebiri), and Ennui (Adèle Exarchopoulos).

Inside Out 2 was a smash hit at the box office, earning over $1.5 billion worldwide, and becoming the highest domestic grossing animated film of all time. It’s also currently the highest-grossing film of 2024. And the Pixar movie’s not done making money yet. Disney is releasing Inside Out 2 on “premium” video-on-demand tomorrow, which is the new industry term used to charge folks even more money for early access to watch recent theatrical movies at home. In the case of Inside Out 2, it will cost you $30 to buy a digital copy of the film.

If you’re not willing to shell out the cash, you should know that Inside Out 2 will likely be streaming on Disney+ before the end of the year. Read on to learn about the Inside Out 2 streaming release, and when we expect to see Inside Out 2 on Disney+.

Where to watch Inside Out 2 on streaming:

Beginning on Tuesday, August 20 Inside Out 2 will be available to buy digitally on Amazon Prime, Apple TV, Vudu, and more. The price may vary depending on which platform you use to purchase the film, but on Amazon Prime the movie costs $29.99 to buy, and $24.99 to rent.

The digital release of Inside Out 2 will also include bonus content, including an alternate opening, and more deleted scenes. Other bonus featuers including a “making of” featurette titled “New Emotions,” and visual commentary called “Unlocking the Vault.” Inside Out 2 will also be available on 4K Ultra HD™, Blu-ray™ and DVD on September 10.

Inside Out 2 is not yet streaming on any subscription streaming services, but we do expect to see Inside Out 2 streaming on Disney+ soon.

When will Inside Out 2 be streaming on Disney Plus?

UPDATE 9/13/24: Inside Out 2 will begin streaming on Disney+ on September 25, just in time for spooky season. There’s nothing scarier than emotions!

Inside Out 2 will likely stream on Disney+ before the end of the year, because it is a Disney movie. All of the new Disney theatrical movies end up streaming on Disney+, often about four to six months after opening in theaters. Last year, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny opened in theaters on June 30, was released digitally on August 29, and began streaming on Disney+ on December 1—about five months after opening in theaters.

If  Inside Out 2  follows a similar release strategy, we can expect to see Inside Out 2 streaming on Disney+ around November or December 2024.

That said, the Inside Out 2 Disney+ release date has not yet officially been announced. This is all guesswork, so take it with a grain of salt. For now, if you want to watch Inside Out 2 at home, you can buy a digital copy of the movie.
