FX Unveils First Peek At Travis Kelce In Ryan Murphy’s Horrifying ‘Grotesquerie’ Trailer

Kim Kardashian walked so Travis Kelce could run. The NFL star is the latest surprise celeb to team up with prolific creator Ryan Murphy, who cast Kelce in his new series Grotesquerie. While the project has been kept under wraps for a while now, FX gave us all a little treat this morning by dropping the very first teaser for the chilling new show.

Finally, we get a first look at Kelce’s role, which still remains pretty mysterious. After all, he’s featured in the teaser for just a moment, and we still don’t even know Kelce’s character’s name, which begs the question: Is he playing himself? Could be a wild twist from Murphy, just saying.

When we do see the Kansas City Chiefs star, he’s stone-faced and cast in spooky purple lighting as he flashes his hands in front of his eyes. What could it all mean?! (No really, someone please tell us.)

Taylor Swift‘s boyfriend has been pretty quiet about his involvement in the series, as is typical with Murphy’s projects, but he did give a little behind-the-scenes tidbit when he posted an Instagram Story with co-star Niecy Nash-Betts in May, per Deadline.

Nash also shared some moments from the Grotesquerie set, including a moment in which Murphy complimented Kelce’s “wonderful” performance. The NFL star then admitted, “I’m just glad I didn’t hurt nobody.”

Of course, Kelce isn’t the only one we see in the nearly two-minute-long trailer, which feels like an extended American Horror Story opening sequence with its gruesome imagery and haunting score. Grotesquerie also features plenty of Nash-Betts (a frequent Murphy collaborator) as well as co-stars Courtney B. Vance, Lesley Manville and Micaela Diamond.

“I don’t know how it started. It’s like a hole opened up in the world to the center of nothingness,” Nash-Betts, who plays Detective Lois Tryon, says in a voiceover against images of a crime scene, a TV with a static screen and a pretty gnarly bathroom.

Another voice then utters the ominous line, “This killer is sermonizing. Proselytizing. Preaching.”

Per the show’s official logline, Grotesquerie follows “a series of heinous crimes have unsettled a small community. Detective Lois Tryon feels these crimes are eerily personal, as if someone—or something—is taunting her. At home, Lois grapples with a strained relationship with her daughter, a husband in long-term hospital care and her own inner demons.

“With no leads and unsure of where to turn, she accepts the help of Sister Megan, a nun and journalist with the Catholic Guardian. Sister Megan, with her own difficult past, has seen the worst of humanity, yet she still believes in its capacity for good,” the logline continues. “Lois, on the other hand, fears the world is succumbing to evil. As Lois and Sister Megan string together clues, they find themselves ensnared in a sinister web that only seems to raise more questions than answers.”

Grotesquerie premieres Sept. 25 at 10/9c on FX, with next-day streaming on Hulu. Watch the full teaser in the video above.
