Colin Jost offered a hilarious update from his time abroad after recent reports claimed NBC got someone to replace him as their new surfing correspondent.

Jost certainly made a splash at the 2024 Olympics, but the host had a streak of bad luck that seemingly ended with him getting sent home early from Tahiti before the games were over. But the Saturday Night Live star denies that he was “sent home,” instead, he claims NBC “exiled” him.

“Dude, are you OK?’ That’s the number one text message I’ve received in the past 48 hours. Usually followed by, ‘Heard your foot fell off,’ ” Jost said in a video shared on social media.

“Well, I’m actually fine!” he continued. “And despite what big media conspiracies would have you believe, I wasn’t ‘sent home’ from the Olympics. NBC simply looked at my foot, declared me legally a leper, and exiled me here, to the island of Malta!”

Though he was no longer at the Olympics, Jost was still in good spirits as he explained what he’s been up to while sightseeing in Malta.

“Now Malta doesn’t have many Olympians competing this year, but it does have thousands of 15-year-old British kids competing to see who can black out the fastest, and somehow they’re all winning,” he joked. “It also has this casino behind me, where I’ve blown the hundreds of dollars I’ve earned as a surfing correspondent.”

He later thanked Tahiti for “their warmth, their hospitality, their generosity and for only occasionally looking at my foot and and whispering ‘Chupacabra!’”

Jost also shared that his foot was now “pretty much totally fine” after he “scraped up” his foot on some coral while surfing in Tahiti. “You know it’s going great when you’ve been to the Olympic medical tent more than any of the athletes,” he wrote on social media along with a photo of his bandaged foot.

Jost also suffered a staph infection and an ear infection while reporting on the Olympics from Tahiti. But he handled his streak of bad luck with a lighthearted sense of humor, even while reporting live on the Olympics for NBC.

At one point, Jost checked in with Mike Tirico in Paris while lounging inside a pool in Tahiti. “It’s going great, Mike. I woke up this morning and discovered that I had added ear infection to my growing list of ailments. So I’m now on three different medications — four, if you count piña coladas,” he said. “My new goal is to have as many infections as there are Olympic Events.”

It’s good to see the SNL star spread his wings beyond the show’s hilarious Weekend Update segment. Amid his recent stint in Tahiti, it was announced that Jost was tapped to host Pop Culture Jeopardy!

Let’s hope he’s healed and ready to step up to the podium when the new Prime Video game show begins filming.
