Is The Real Housewives of New Jersey ending for good? Amid talks of a reboot for next season, executive producer Andy Cohen ominously suggested that the Season 14 finale felt more like a “series finale.”
The episode, which aired on Sunday night (Aug. 4), brought little to no resolution for the estranged group of women. Not only did their cast photo fade to black and white in the opening credits, but the episode was also filled with emotional flashback scenes from their time on the show — making it feel as though we were officially saying goodbye to the cast as we know it.
Cohen opened up about the explosive finale on today’s edition of his Sirius XM radio show Andy Cohen Live.
“I want to get into some Housewives talk. Everyone’s still talking about Jersey. People still texting me about it as well as I got the Jersey ladies texting me,” he said, noting that fans are “gonna really like” the Season 14 finale watch party, which will air instead of a traditional reunion.
He added, “I think it’s kind of a soft landing for the show. Let me say that. Did kind of feel like a series finale, didn’t it?”
Cohen didn’t elaborate more on his comment, though he did explain why the show needs a reboot after the Watch What Crappens podcast hosts told him not to change the cast.
“The problem is there’s kind of no moving forward. They are all in their own box,” Cohen said. “There needs to be forward momentum for these shows to be able — you have to be able to regenerate.”
The Bravo icon has been vocal about the network’s plans to revamp The Real Housewives of New Jersey.
“Well, I mean, have you heard that we’re gonna do big changes to the show?” he previously asked an Andy Cohen Live caller, before later adding, “Yes, we are rebooting the show. We’re gonna reboot it. We’re gonna do something different.”
Cohen even teased that they may cast “all fresh faces,” though nothing has been officially confirmed yet.
