Will There Be A ‘Criminal Minds: Evolution’ Season 3 On Paramount+?

Another season of Criminal Minds: Evolution is in the books and though the BAU finally solved the mystery of Gold Star, before the end credits rolled on the Season 2 (aka Season 17) finale, viewers were left with two more burning questions: Is Elias Voit dead? And will there be a Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 3?

While we don’t know what the Paramount+ original series has in store for Zach Gilford’s character — who we at Decider would obviously love to see more of — we do have some insight into the future of the series.

Curious how Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 2 ended? Wondering if there will be a Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 3 on Paramount+? And if so, when you can expect new episodes to film and premiere? We’ve got answers.

Here’s everything to know about Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 3, including renewal status, production updates, and potential storylines.

Will There Be A Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 3 On Paramount+?

You bet! On June 5, ahead of Season 2’s premiere, Paramount+ announced that Criminal Minds: Evolution was renewed for an additional season, which means the BAU will be back for Season 3.

When Is Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 3 Filming?

Though exact filming dates haven’t been announced, during the renewal announcement Paramount+ confirmed that Season 3 is set to go into production later this year.

Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 3 Premiere Date

An exact premiere date is currently unknown, but if Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 3 does start production in late 2024 we’ll hopefully see new episodes in 2025. As a reminder, Season 1 aired from November 24, 2022 to February 9, 2023 and Season 2 aired from June 6, 2024 to August 1, 2024.

Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 2 Ending Explained: What Will Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 3 Be About?

If you’re looking for a detailed recap of Criminal Minds: Evolution‘s Season 2 finale Decider’s Episode 10 recap has you covered. Going into Season 3, however, we can assume that Joe Mantegna, A.J. Cook, Kirsten Vangsness, Aisha Tyler, Ryan-James Hatanaka, Adam Rodriguez, and Paget Brewster will be back solving fresh new cases.

In the final Season 2 finale scenes, we saw the BAU gathering for a well-earned celebration featuring a “Hooray you’re alive” cake. We learned that Tyler submitted his resume to Quantico, so we’ll likely see his FBI career progress in Season 3. Tara and Rebecca finally told the team about their relationship, so we’ll see that progress as well. And of course, there’s the Elias Voit of it all. At the party, Rossi had yet another hallucination of Voit before making a toast that the team should take one night to pretend he no longer exists. Season 3 will show the aftermath and healing of Season 2 events, but it will also have to answer a burning question that came from an unexpected finale cliffhanger: Is Voit still alive?

Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 2’s final scene checked back in with Zach Gilford’s character in prison, where two fellow inmates approached him with knowledge that he was Elias Voit. The smooth talking serial killer tried to explain that he’s Lee Duval and they got the wrong guy, but the man holding a knife insisted he knew all about him and the three started fighting until the end credits rolled.

Will Zach Gilford Be On Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 3 As Elias Voit?

Only time will tell if Voit survived the attack, and thus, if Gilford will live to see another Evolution episode, but the actor also directed his first episode of television with Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 2, Episode 8, so perhaps even if Voit is gone for good there’s a chance Gilford could return behind the camera.

Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 1 and Season 2 are now streaming on Paramount+ along with all 15 seasons of the original Criminal Minds series, which ran from 2005-2020 on CBS.
