Kamala Harris has been ramping up her presidential campaign since President Biden stepped out of the race. And it looks like Maya Rudolph is reporting for duty.

The comedy star will reportedly be returning to Saturday Night Live to perform her Emmy-winning impersonation of Harris through the 2024 presidential election, Deadline reports. The news comes after fans on the internet were calling on the actress to reprise her role amid the revelation that Harris was entering the race.

But Rudolph’s new commitment will reportedly impact pre-production on Season 3 of her Apple TV+ series Loot. Production was reportedly set to begin Aug. 26, but the cast and crew were notified earlier this week that the start date has been pushed back due to scheduling reasons.

A source with knowledge of Rudolph’s plans told CNN that SNL producers had “immediate interest” in getting the star back to reprise her role, but her availability was unclear at the time.

Now, it looks like Loot will begin production on Season 3 in January 2025, which could push back the premiere date. Loot films in Los Angeles, while SNL shoots in New York City, which could mean Rudolph may have to temporarily relocate depending on time commitment.

SNL cast member Ego Nwodim told DECIDER that she could certainly understand why fans wanted Rudolph to reprise her “incredible” role.

“Maya does an incredible job as Kamala Harris so it makes total sense that the internet is clamoring for her to return to reprise her role,” she said. “It’d make sense that she’d come back and do it again. I love Maya, she’s incredible so I get it.”

Rudolph first debuted her Harris impersonation on SNL in 2019, after which she earned an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series.

Harris gave Rudolph a shout out on the platform then-known as Twitter, writing, “That girl being played by @MayaRudolph on @nbcsnl? That girl was me.” She even used a GIF of Rudolph in-character as Harris, wagging her finger and exclaiming, “No one is above the law.”

She also stated at the time that she intended to keep Rudolph “in work for the next 8 years.”

Well, it looks like she’s making good on that promise.

As for what Rudolph’s return to the show will look like, it’s possible that SNL will deploy James Austin Johnson and his Donald Trump impersonation for a debate, as Harris has recently been publicly challenging Trump.

It’s also possible that SNL will mark the premiere of its landmark 50th season with a special appearance from Rudolph when it returns this fall.

Saturday Night Live Season 50 premieres on NBC Sept. 28.
