The View got just a bit awkward this morning when Ana Navarro appeared to borrow a joke from Whoopi Goldberg without crediting her co-host. Or, if you side with Navarro on this one, Goldberg stole it from her… but allow us to explain.

Monday’s episode kicked off with a chat about politics, as is typical for the View, but when Navarro delivered her remarks about 2024 presidential hopeful Kamala Harris and her opponents on the right, things got a little hairy.

“On the other side, you’ve got these weird men, because they’re weird. And don’t complain that we’re calling you ‘weird,’ because you’ve attacked her on her dating history,” Navarro said, referring to Harris’ remarks that Donald Trump and J.D. Vance are being “just plain weird” in criticizing her.

Navarro continued, “You have called her a DEI hire. You have said everything she’s gotten is because of her gender and her skin color. You’ve called her all sorts of names, so I think we’re being really kind and gracious by just calling you ‘weird.'”

She then said, “And frankly, J.D. Vance — ‘Just Dumb’ Vance — is pretty weird,”as the audience laughed. When she began to say,”Because—” Goldberg cut in to ask, “Where did you get that from?”

Navarro replied, “I tweeted it out two days ago.” Indeed, Navarro did write on X over the weekend: “Oh, man. Only thing more stupid than Fredo’s tweet, was him talking his dad into picking weirdo JD ‘Just Dumb’ Vance as his VP,” referring to a tweet from Donald Trump Jr. about Harris supporting Jussie Smollett in 2019.

But Goldberg wasn’t buying it. She shot back, “Yes, but where did you hear it the first time?” to which Navarro responded, “Well, I heard it from you today.”

Goldberg indignantly told her co-host, “Well, you heard it from me last week!” as Alyssa Farah Griffin backed her up, saying, “I heard it.”

Navarro wasn’t going to admit the term wasn’t her own, though, as she said, “Well, I didn’t,” and tried to move he conversation along. Meanwhile, Goldberg let out an “mmhmm,” pursed her lips and looked out at the audience with raised eyebrows.

We can only imagine how tense the commercial break was.

The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
