Elliot Page Emotionally Weighs In On “Incredibly Sad” Anti-LGBTQ+ Legislation On ‘The View’

Elliot Page emotionally opened up about the hundreds of anti-LGBTQ+ bills that have been introduced across the country this year, telling The View co-hosts that the Republican agenda makes him “sad” and “frightened.”

Page, who is gearing up for the fourth and final season of The Umbrella Academy, appeared on this morning’s episode of the long-running daytime talk show, where co-host Ana Navarro asked for his thoughts on legislation banning gender-affirming healthcare for transgender youth.

Page, who came out as transgender in 2020, took an emotional pause before he answered the question.

“Of course, I feel incredibly sad about it and angry and frightened. I know a lot of people are,” Page said.

“When I think of — for example, the trans community — and I think of how the vast majority of people don’t know, or think they don’t know, a trans person,” he continued. “So the amount of misinformation and just true flat-out lies about our lives, who we are [and] our healthcare spread.”

Page encouraged viewers to “educate” themselves by listening to trans people, trans youth and even parents of trans youth, “many of whom were in denial about a certain situation and who are — if they have the means — having to flee certain states or are terrified that their children are going to be taken away from them when they’ve just been doing everything they can to make sure that their child can feel loved and thrive in their lives.”

The actor also pointed people toward the ACLU website, which tracks where these anti-LGBTQ+ bills have spread, as well as documentaries like Changing the Game and Disclosure.

Navarro, for her part, chimed back in at the end of the interview to remind people to vote in November.

“If you’re an ally, don’t vote for people who hurt your friends,” she concluded.
