Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie came into this morning’s episode of The View guns blazing. The Republican politician, who has been outspoken against Donald Trump, doubted that the assassination attempt on the former president changed him in any way.

Christie remained critical of Trump while chatting with the co-hosts, noting that the Republican nominee has been “affected” by the shooting, but likely “hasn’t been changed.”

“Two things can be true at the same time. I feel badly for him that it happened to him. I wish it never had. It’s terrible for the country to have to see that kind of violence,” Christie said, before adding that it “doesn’t change who he is” and “doesn’t change the fundamentals of this race.”

He even brushed off “the idea of unity” Republicans having been pushing forth following the attempt on Trump’s life.

“I saw these people saying the [Republican National Convention] was so unified. Well, they were all Trump delegates, of course they’re unified!” he said. “If he can’t win that room, then what’re you doing?”

According to Christie, Trump “picked the people he wanted from each state” to attend his RNC speech — which left the former federal prosecutor unimpressed.

“More than a third of what he said last night was adlibbed, and all of the adlib was back to what he normally does, which is, ‘This is the grievance against me, this is how horribly I’ve been treated, woe is me, but thank God I haven’t given up so I’m still here for all of you,'” Christie said. “It’s just who he is. He’s not gonna change.”

Christie added that Trump is “most comfortable” when he’s going off-script.

“The first 15 minutes of that [speech] — he’s as unenthusiastic, as unenergetic as I’ve ever seen him,” he said. “Why? Because he hated what he was saying. He hated it. He doesn’t believe it. But he knew he had to say it.”

The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
