Anthony Anderson picked quite a day to guest host Jimmy Kimmel Live.

The comedian and actor had a lot to discuss when he took the stage for Monday’s (July 15) broadcast: The assassination attempt on Donald Trump, Trump’s not-so-surprising pick for his running mate, and the equally heavy topic of Despicable Me 4‘s record-breaking box office success.

After highlighting the fact that this was his 17th time guest hosting Jimmy Kimmel Live, Anderson admitted, “All weekend I kept thinking, ‘I wonder what Jimmy Kimmel is gonna say about this on Monday.’ And then I was like, ‘Oh shit, I’m Jimmy Kimmel on Monday!'”

He took some time to offer his thoughts and prayers to the victims’ family from the weekend’s shooting before switching gears to the next major political news from the weekend, Trump picking Ohio Senator J.D. Vance to be his running mate in the 2024 election.

“Vance has everything that Trump is looking for in a running mate,” Anderson began explaining. “He’s white. He’s, well … That’s pretty much it.”

Don’t worry, though. Anderson eventually found another reason Vance may have been chosen to be Trump’s vice president: “He also looks like if Eric [Trump] and Don Jr. had a baby.”

It’s only fitting that Anderson take shots at Trump and his family, as Jimmy Kimmel has been known for being a staunch Trump critic on his show.

Before taking his summer hiatus, Kimmel featured Trump’s “sick” Father’s Day message addressed to the “radical left degenerates.”

“Who’s mad on Father’s Day?” Kimmel asked. “I guess you’d be mad if there was a whole day devoted to your two biggest failures, Trippy and Dopey.”

He then shared a photo of Don Jr. and Eric, calling them “the dolt-sen twins.”

Anderson is the latest in a summer full of celebrity guest hosts who will be taking over Live until Kimmel returns on Labor Day.

Jimmy Kimmel Live airs weeknights at 11:35 ET/PT.
