Al Roker has been a Today Show staple for almost 30 years — and his trusty co-host Craig Melvin is dishing on what it’s really like to share the screen with the iconic weatherman.

Melvin joined The Bear star Abby Elliott in the Bravo Clubhouse for Wednesday night’s (June 19) episode of Watch What Happens Live, where host Andy Cohen introduced a fun game of “No Day But Today” in which Melvin had to answer Cohen’s burning questions about his Today co-hosts.

“Who takes the longest in hair and makeup?” Cohen asked, to which Melvin replied, “Oh, come on, Andy. Um. The longest? Roker.”

Melvin also revealed that Roker “goes off the cuff the most” while on the air, “flubs” his reads the most, and hangs out with him the most off-camera. Plus, the broadcaster named Roker as the “most fun” co-host to travel with.

“You know why? Because when you walk through the airport with Al Roker it’s like you’re walking through the airport with Jesus Christ,” he joked. “The seas part. ‘Oh, come on, Mr. Melvin!'”

While Melvin named Roker as most of his answers in the game, he didn’t forget about everyone else on the show. The journalist named Carson Daly as the co-host who leaves work the fastest. He also said they’re all vocal when it comes to giving wardrobe feedback about their Halloween costumes — especially after Roker had the “worst” costume when he dressed up as Charlie Brown in 2015.

Moreover, Melvin said Savannah Guthrie gave him the best piece of advice when he joined the Today family in 2018.

“She was like, ‘You know, 80% of this job is just showing up. Like, just being here. Being here every morning,'” he recalled. “Because, you know, the show — and I think that’s one of the reasons it’s lasted more than 70 years — is like, when you’re a morning news show, these days especially, you’re a part of peoples’ lives. So there’s an expectation that you’re gonna be there.”

He added, “The second best piece of advice was from Roker, who told me shortly after I started, ‘Don’t eff it up.'”

Watch What Happens Live airs Sunday through Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET on Bravo. New episodes are available to stream the next day on Peacock.
