Behind all the glitz and glamour of an awards show, there’s always some sort of chaos behind the scenes — just ask Alyssa Farah Griffin. On this morning’s episode of The View, the co-host recapped her weekend at the 51st Daytime Emmy Awards on Friday (June 7), where she experienced a makeup mishap that was thankfully fixed by Sunny Hostin.

Griffin began by telling the panel that she had “such a fun weekend” celebrating the show, which was nominated for multiple awards, including Outstanding Daytime Talk Series and Outstanding Daytime Talk Series Host.

Griffin, who attended the ceremony with Hostin and The View Executive Producer Brian Teta, said she experienced “a bit of a crisis” while en route to the event.

“We’re in a car, champagne was spilled everywhere, and then I feel a little moist on my face,” she began, before explaining that she tried to remedy the issue herself with her powder blotter.

Unfortunately, this quick fix only worsened Griffin’s problem.

“Someone looks at me, I think Sunny, and says, ‘Something is wrong with your face,'” Griffin recalled. “I had destroyed it, like the darkest makeup right there, as we’re pulling up to the red carpet.”

Hostin corroborated her co-host’s tale, detailing the “blotches of bronzer” on Griffin’s face. While Hostin “saved” Griffin, another View member wasn’t so helpful. Pointing out to the audience were Teta was stationed, Griffin exclaimed, “Brian hung me out to dry and didn’t say a thing, and nobody said ‘Your face is messed up,’ so it was touch-and-go, but we were really happy to be there.”

Hostin admitted the makeup mess was like nothing she’d ever seen, but she did have a rather jarring comparison for audience members.

“It was almost like a Rudy Giuliani moment,” she said, referring to the infamous 2020 press conference in which the former New York City mayor was sweating dark brown hair dye.

Oof. Now we’re especially grateful for Sunny and her powder puff.

The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
