TikTok comedian Georgia Godworth unknowingly interviewed Elvis director Baz Luhrmann about his marriage and sexual habits in a now-viral video after she randomly stopped him on the streets of Sydney, Australia.

Godworth admitted in the caption that she “had no idea this was Baz Luhrmann,” which explains why the interview became painfully awkward at one point.

Luhrmann was quick to play along, though even he admitted that he doesn’t “usually… do interviews.” Much to Godworth’s confusion, the filmmaker directed the camera man to a different angle before the interview even started.

“I think you need to put the camera—I think it is there,” he says as he moves the camera to a different position with better lighting. Godworth appears confused by Luhrmann’s audacious move, but she continues with her bizarre questioning.

“Yeah, that’s good, get the light, get the angles,” she says. “So, are you single?”

Luhrmann, who is married to costume designer Catherine Martin, began to explain that he has an untraditional arrangement in his marriage. “During that journey of marriage, the person I’m married to and I found our own really genuine and authentic concept of what our contract to each other should be,” he said.

“My own general philosophy is if you care about someone but they fall in love with someone else, or they like someone, there has to be some degree of acceptance. It’s a contract of communication,” he adds.

His point prompts Godworth to take the interview in a more NSFW direction. “It’s a loose contract where you can fuck other people occasionally,” Godworth states.

Luhrmann replies by saying he’s “not sure what that means,” so Godworth clarified: “threesomes, foursomes, orgy, the occasional booty call.”

“How many foursomes have you had?” he suddenly asks her at one point. “You can be honest.”

Godworth hems and haws over her answer before finally replying, “Six.”

The bizarre turn appeared to unsettle the filmmaker, who replies, “So then, what is the point of the conversation we’re having?”

She questioned him a bit more about his dating life before eventually wrapping up the interview with a friendly handshake.

“I usually don’t do interviews,” Luhrmann says in the video as they part ways. “But I’m happy to be a part of yours.”

After the interview went viral, Godworth confessed to The Guardian that she did not recognize him even though she considers herself a big fan of his work.

Moulin Rouge was my favorite film as a child and I absolutely love Romeo + Juliet,” she said. “I see him as an icon—I just didn’t recognize him!”
