Johnny Wactor, the General Hospital star who was tragically killed over the weekend in Los Angeles, was reportedly shielding a female co-worker when he was fatally shot.

Wactor’s brother Grant told The Daily Mail that the actor had been walking a female co-worker to her car after the two finished a bartending shift on Saturday (May 25) night.

When Johnny noticed a group of men near his car, he assumed he was being towed and tried to discuss it with the perpetrators before one of them looked up and pointed a gun at him, then shot, per The Daily Mail.

“We’re Southern, born and raised, and we would never let a female walk to their car by herself,” Grant told the outlet.

“He came across them and he thought his truck was being towed. So he said something to the guys, like, ‘Hey, are you towing?'” he continued. “And then once he turned around, he saw what was happening and he put his coworker behind him. And that’s when they shot him.”

Wactor was immediately transported to the hospital after the shooting, where he was later pronounced dead. The suspects in the shooting remain at large, per The Daily Mail.

The men who shot Wactor were reportedly attempting to steal his car’s catalytic converter. ABC 7 reports that Wactor was killed at about 3 a.m. local time on Saturday near West Pico Boulevard and South Hope Street.
