Stream It Or Skip It: ‘The Kardashians’ Season 5 On Hulu, Bringing The Family Together For One Final Hurrah Before Baby Barker

After a long six months, The Kardashians is finally back with a fifth season on Hulu.

Kris Jenner, Kourtney Kardashian, Kim Kardashian, Khloé Kardashian, Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner are busier than ever as they prepare for the arrival of Baby Barker, travel the world for work and somehow find a spare minute to spend some good ol’ quality time with family.

But with everyone getting along so far, are there enough dramatic moments to keep viewers hooked? We watched the first episode — and this famous family is just as captivating as ever.

THE KARDASHIANS – SEASON 5: STREAM IT OR SKIP IT?

Opening Shot: The fifth season opens with a heavily pregnant Kourtney sitting in bed with some of her close friends. While wearing an “It’s a Boy” T-shirt, Kourtney gushes over her pregnancy, telling her pals that she feels “great” despite having recently endured a health scare that required her to undergo fetal surgery.

The Gist: With Kourtney on bed rest until further notice, Kris takes the reins on her vintage Disney-themed baby shower, bringing Disneyland right to the backyard of her Calabasas mansion. However, tragedy strikes when Kourtney and Travis test positive for COVID-19 the day of the party — which the former attributes to the six-hour make-out session they had when he got home from touring with Blink 182. Despite contracting the virus, the loved-up couple manages to make a safe, socially-distanced appearance at their baby shower.

The episode also finds Khloé Kardashian — who’s still definitely not getting back together with Tristan Thompson — and Kris breaking their silence on Caitlyn Jenner‘s participation in the tell-all doc House of Kardashian. Plus, Kris, Kim and Kylie jet off to Paris Fashion Week to watch Kendall walk the runways, proving this family never skips a beat.

What Shows Will This Remind You Of? The Kardashians will remind you of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, the family’s original reality show that ran on E! from 2007 to 2021. The show has the same big personalities and the same glamorous lifestyle with just a slightly different aesthetic.

Our Take: Just when we think the Kardashian family can’t get any busier, they release another season that proves us wrong. Kourtney is preparing for the birth of her fourth child, while Kim is jet-setting across the world, caring for four kids, going to law school and gearing up for her role in American Horror Story: Delicate. Khloé is continuing to co-parent with Tristan, who had recently been traded back to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Kendall, who finally admits that she’s the most boring sister, is strutting down runways for Victoria Beckham (which makes her so not boring). And Kylie is … well … Kylie, fluttering through Paris with Kendall and holding up dinner with photoshoots.

While the sisters appear to be getting along swimmingly, there is certainly no shortage of drama — especially when it comes to the last-minute realization that Kourtney and Travis have COVID-19 on the day of their baby shower. Not to mention, Kourtney is currently on bed rest following a “terrifying” surgery on the fetus that happened after her high-risk doctor noticed something unusual during an at-home scan. Oh, and Kris accidentally reveals Baby Barker’s name to the baby shower guests. Oops.

With new babies on the horizon, new business ventures bubbling up and closer looks into the lives of America’s royal family, The Kardashians Season 5 certainly does not disappoint thus far.

Sex and Skin: There’s no sex and skin, but the Kardashian clan is surely not one to shy away from a sexual innuendo or two. As Scott Disick tosses grapes into Khloé’s mouth, he jokes, “I get nervous throwing balls in your face,” to which she replies, “I’m used to someone with better aim.”

Parting Shot: After Beckham’s fashion show, Kim takes photos with the Spice Girl as she longingly wishes Khloé would’ve put aside her “rigid” schedule and joined her in Paris.

Sleeper Star: Since the beginning of time, the Kardashian family’s reality shows have largely focused on the sisters. But now, Kris — our favorite momager — has her time to shine. In this episode alone, she throws Kourtney an epic baby shower and prevails despite their setbacks. Then she flies across the world to support Kendall during fashion week — even if she doesn’t recognize her on the runway. And as if caring for her own biological litter isn’t enough, Kris even etches out some time for her ex-son-in-law Scott. Talk about a woman who does it all!

Most Pilot-y Line: We’re going to give the “most pilot-y line” to Kris, who says, “Season 5! By the way, if you add in the 20 seasons we did previously and these five seasons, that’s 25 seasons. So I think somebody should give me a 25th anniversary gift.” Someone get this woman some diamonds and a martini ASAP!

Our Call: STREAM IT. The Kardashians is just as watchable as ever, especially with a new baby on the way. Plus, the season preview teases a meet-up between Kim and Gypsy Rose Blanchard, who recently got out of prison for aiding in the murder of her abusive mother. So that should be interesting.
