A good moderator holds people accountable and keeps everything in check, and Whoopi Goldberg did just that when she grilled her co-hosts for not carrying out the request of their guest on this morning’s episode of The View.

Jennifer Lopez — who appeared on today’s episode of The View to promote her new film This Is Me… Now: A Love Story and its accompanying doc and album — had asked the co-hosts to try out her new viral TikTok dance, but only one of them was brave enough to comply. Now, they’ll likely never hear the end of it from Goldberg.

During her interview with the panel, Lopez was treated to a video of co-host Sara Haines dancing to a remix to her song “Can’t Get Enough.” Alyssa Farah Griffin introduced the clip, telling the multi-hyphenate, “None of us at the table were brave enough — except for Sara Haines — to attempt the dance.”

As she was speaking, Goldberg could be heard muttering, “Nobody asked me!”

When the clip concluded, Haines said she had no other choice but to heed Lopez’s request (even if it was mysteriously not extended to all of The View co-hosts). Haines quipped, “I said, when J. Lo asks us to dance, we dance!”

(Editor’s Note: The View is currently on hiatus; contrary to what you may have heard, The View was not canceled today. This article was originally published on Jan. 15, 2024 when this episode first aired. The View will return with new episodes next week.)

She even got applause for Lopez herself, who clapped for Haines and told her, “Nice job,” as Goldberg aired her grievances once more, dryly telling the panel, “No, I don’t feel left out.”

She then jokingly patted Haines’ arm and said, “Well, sometimes they have to get their time in.”

Once the panel returned from commercial break without Lopez seated among them, Goldberg got down to business questioning why Haines was the only one who tried to dance — and of course, producer Brian Teta was called out for not asking her to try it, too.

“So, how come y’all weren’t dancing?” she asked Sunny Hostin, Ana Navarro and Griffin.

Hostin quickly claimed, “I did know the dance,” but said she chose not to show off her moves because she “didn’t feel like it.”

However, Griffin called her out, insisting that Hostin didn’t do the dance because she was busy attending New York Fashion Week. While Hostin didn’t deny the claim, it wasn’t enough of an excuse for Goldberg, who shot back, “What does that have to do with doing the dance?!”

As for Griffin, she told Goldberg she had “tried for an hour-and-a-half” to master the dance, but admitted she has “two left feet,” while Navarro bluntly replied, “Don’t look at me. There ain’t enough margaritas in the world that would have me doing this.”

She then put Teta on the spot, wondering why he didn’t ask Goldberg to try J. Lo’s dance. From his spot in front of the audience, the EP replied, “Whoopi charges extra when I ask her to dance.”

Hostin then told her co-host, “You could have done it,” to which Goldberg confidently shot back, “Oh, you don’t have to tell me I could have done it. I know I could have done it!

“I just thought that perhaps y’all feel that I might have showed you up…” she added.

Likely theory! We’re team Whoopi on this one (as usual).
