The Big Bang Theory star Jim Parsons, who was the first to play Sheldon Cooper, agrees with fans that Michael Keaton would make a great older version.

Fans have been talking about wanting Keaton to join the franchise via social media and now Parsons has responded.

Parsons, who serves as an executive producer and narrator for the spinoff series Young Sheldon, spoke to Jimmy Fallon about the idea earlier this week on The Tonight Show.

During the interview, Fallon brought up side-by-side images of young Keaton and Iain Armitage, who plays young Sheldon on the show.

“It is interesting. There’s definitely a resemblance,” Parsons said. “The one thing I will say is Michael Keaton — that really looks like Michael Keaton still, doesn’t it?”

When Fallon mentioned the idea of Keaton playing an older Sheldon in a new spinoff, Parsons expressed his doubts.

“Let me tell you this: I doubt that’s going to happen,” he said. “But I would be so excited to have Michael Keaton added to the lineage of Sheldon portrayers. I would be amazed.”

Parsons went on to say he’s a huge fan of Keaton. “Oh, I’ve admired that man my entire life, starting with Mr. Mom,” he explained. “I mean, what a great guy. He’s a wonderful actor.”

Last month, it was revealed that Parsons and his Big Bang Theory co-star Mayim Bialik will be reprising their roles for the series finale of Young Sheldon (which will air on May 16).

Executive producer Steve Holland recently spoke to The Independent about the show’s final season. “There are certain things we know happen in Sheldon’s life at 14. We started talking about the future of show and what it looked like,” he said. “This is the right time for this story to come to an end, knowing that at 14, he goes off to Cal Tech. It felt like the right time to end it strong while it was on top.”

The Big Bang Theory debuted in 2007 and ran for 12 seasons on CBS, airing its finale in 2019. In addition to Parsons and Bialik, who have not been seen together on-screen since, the series starred Johnny Galecki, Kaley Cuoco, Kunal Nayyar, and Simon Helberg.
