Selena Gomez and David Henrie are dusting off their old wands. The duo, who played brother and sister in Wizards of Waverly Place, are set to reunite for a reboot of the beloved Disney Channel series.

Deadline reported today that Disney Branded Television has ordered a pilot for the sequel, which Gomez and Henrie will executive produce and star in.

While Henrie will reprise his role as Justin Russo throughout the series, Gomez will only return as his quick-witted younger sister Alex Russo for the first episode. The show will also feature Call Me Kat star Alkaio Thiele as Justin’s oldest son Roman Russo and American Princess star Mimi Gianopulos as Justin’s wife Giada.

The reboot is set to follow Justin, who, like his father, abandoned his wizard powers to live a normal life with his wife and two sons. However, he must embrace his magical past when a powerful young wizard named Billie (Janice LeAnn Brown) shows up at his door in need of training, which is vital for the future of the Wizard World.

“The Russo’s are excited to become a part of your family, once again, but we’ve grown 😊 2024, the year magic comes back! 🪄” Henrie wrote on Instagram, along with a photo of the script.

Gomez also shared the news to her Instagram story, where she wrote, “So excited!” and, “We’re back.”

The original Wizards of Waverly Place ran for four seasons from 2007 to 2012 — and even landed its own Disney Channel original movie, Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie. The sitcom followed the three Russo siblings as they navigated normal teenage experiences all while living double lives as wizards in training.

The upcoming reboot has been years in the making. In 2020, Henrie told Access Hollywood that he and Gomez had “talked” about reprising the roles that kickstarted their acting careers.

“There’s a lot of talk. We all talk about it for fun. Nothing is official. We’ve talked about it Greg [Sulkin], Selena [and] me,” Henrie told the outlet at the time. “Everyone would be down, but it’s just a matter of time I think.”

Luckily for us, the time is now!
