The 2024 Emmys red carpet kicked off with a notable name slip-up.

Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham met up with Laverne Cox on the star-studded red carpet, the latter of whom was reporting for E! As Cox exclaimed that she was “so excited,” she greeted the Ted Lasso star as “Hannah Waddington.” Oops!

However, Waddingham did not shy away from setting things straight, as she opted to correct Cox, who then attempted a closer guess (but still mispronounced) her last name — once again — as “Wattingham.”

Waddingham, who appeared understanding, ultimately exclaimed, “Let’s get that right!”

Cox then prompted Waddingham to “say it again,” turning the mic over to her to give her the correct pronunciation.

Waddingham enunciated “Hannah Waddingham” into the mic, and Cox finally reiterated her name correctly for both the actress and viewers at home.

Tonight, Waddingham is nominated for her role of Rebecca Walton in the category of Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, alongside her co-star Juno Temple, as well as fellow nominees Alex Borstein (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Ayo Edebiri (The Bear), Janelle James (Abbott Elementary), Jessica Williams (Shrinking), and Sheryl Lee Ralph (Abbott Elementary).
