A crew member from the Netflix original Israeli drama series Fauda has reportedly been killled in action in Gaza.

According to the show’s official X social media account, Matan Meir was “killed in action.” In addition to his role as part of the production team on the show, Meir was a reservist in Israel’s 551st Brigade’s 697th Battalion.

“We are devastated to share that one of our Fauda family members, Matan Meir, was killed in action in Gaza,” reads the post. “Matan was an integral crew member. The cast and crew are heartbroken by this tragic loss. We extend our condolences to Matan’s family and friends. May his soul rest in peace.”

The Times of Israel reports that Meir was one of four soldiers who were killed by a booby-trapped tunnel shaft next to a mosque in the Beit Hanoun area.

“Matan, a man with a heart of gold full of kindness and giving,” said star and co-creator Lior Raz in a statement. “I loved you, Matan. You were always available to me at every moment. A man of work and giving out of true love.”

The series centers on the character Doron, who is a commander in the Israeli Defense Forces Mista’arvim unit, and his team.

Some viewers have accused the show of “whitewashing” the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and painting an inaccurate picture of life in Gaza.
