Disney+, meet Hulu. The “one-app experience” teased by Disney CEO Bob Iger in May is coming to fruition via a beta launch next month for those subscribed to both streaming platforms.

Iger revealed the news in a quarterly earnings call that took place on Wednesday (Nov. 8), according to Variety.

In the call, he shared that the company “remain[s] on track to roll out a more unified one-app experience domestically, making extensive general entertainment content available to bundle subscribers via Disney+.”

On the call, Iger addressed the array of Hulu content accessible on Disney+ that may not be as family-friendly. Iger noted that Disney is “basically putting it in beta so that we can prepare parents, largely, to basically implement parental controls, because you’ll be able to access Hulu programming on the same app,” per Deadline.

“We found that where we bundle, we lower churn,” he added. “And again, these are steps that are all taken to make [streaming] a great business.”

According to CNN, Disney announced their plan to purchase Comcast’s one-third stake in Hulu at “approximately $8.61 billion” in order to “further Disney’s streaming objectives.”

“While the timing of the appraisal is uncertain, we anticipate it should be completed during the 2024 calendar year,” an official statement from the company reads.

Disney’s current “Duo Bundle Basic” plan grants subscribers access to both Disney+ and Hulu with ads for $9.99/month, while the Premium plan offers ad-free versions of both streamers for $19.99/month.

According to the company’s fourth quarter and full year earnings report for 2023, “Disney+ added nearly 7 million core subscribers,” thanks in part to “key streaming content” titles including Elemental, Ahsoka and Moving.

During Wednesday’s call, Iger shared that Disney is “bullish about the future of [their] streaming business,” per The Hollywood Reporter.

“Imagine the opportunities a combined Disney+, Hulu and ESPN streaming experience can offer us as a company and consumers,” he said.
