Whoopi Goldberg was not standing for Alyssa Farah Griffin‘s criticism of President Joe Biden‘s age on this morning’s episode of The View. After the former White House staffer expressed her doubt over Biden’s ability to beat Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election, Goldberg warned her to “watch” what she says.

Before their tense exchange from across the Hot Topics table, Goldberg called out the people who condemn Biden, who is 80 years old, for his age as he prepares to run for another term.

“I don’t like people who start with this age stuff. I’m really over this ageism,” she said. “I’m really over it because it’s an insult to people over 50. We’re also in the future. We see the future too. We planned for your future.”

However, Griffin pointed out that Biden’s age isn’t the only issue with his candidacy. According to her, his “popularity” is “on par” with Jimmy Carter, who was a “one-term president.”

“We all agree that [Trump] is an existential threat to the republic, so I’m dying to understand how Democrats — despite polling that’s bared this out — but even without the polling so take the polling aside, do you really think that the oldest presidential candidate in history is the best person to defeat Donald Trump?” Griffin asked, to which Goldberg chimed in, “Careful what you say.”

While both Sara Haines and Griffin agreed that it’s probably too late for Democrats to find someone who could “perform better” than Biden, Sunny Hostin said she’s relying on the country’s “moral compass” to make sure Trump doesn’t get back in office.

“I think this country has a moral compass and they look at at a twice-impeached, disgraced, four times indicted criminal and I think they say, ‘That guy may be old, but that guy’s a criminal,'” she said, while the live audience cheered her on.

The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
