CBS will air Season 2 of Yellowstone following the ratings success of Season 1 of the Paramount Network series on the linear network.

The hit show will continue to air on Sunday nights when Season 2 premieres.

CBS began airing the series, which was co-created by showrunner Taylor Sheridan and John Linson, to beef up its lineup during the writers and actors strikes, the latter of which is still ongoing.

The first season of Yellowstone starring Kevin Costner premiered on CBS on September 17 and has averaged 5.49 million viewers per episode, according to the latest Nielsen ratings for the show.

According to Deadline, CBS reports that the series has consistently been the most watched show on Sunday nights in the beginning of the TV season and 52 percent of the network’s audience is new to the show.

That’s not surprising considering Yellowstone’s latest season on Paramount Network was the most watched content (outside of live sports) on broadcast or cable in the 2022-23 season.

CBS had added Yellowstone to its fall schedule in July and with SAG-AFTRA still on strike (with negotiations being paused for the time being), the decision to air Season 2 was an easy one as new scripted programming is not possible at the moment.

The Season 1 finale is set to air tonight (October 22) on CBS, with Season 2 scheduled to premiere on October 29.
