Spanish tennis pro and Netflix Break Point star Carlos Alcaraz won the Men’s Title at Wimbledon, defeating Novak Djokovic, the 4-time consecutive reigning champion of Centre Court.

“Beating Novak at his best, in this stage, making history, being the guy to beat him after 10 years unbeaten on that court, is amazing for me,” Alcaraz said after his win, per The New York Times. (For what it’s worth, Alcaraz got his facts confused about Djokovic’s winning streak, as he was most recently defeated at Wimbledon in 2017 — 6 years ago.)

Some may recognize the up-and-comer from Break Point, the Netflix docuseries that follows the next generation of tennis stars. The series followed a group of male and female tennis players as they trained and compete in four Grand Slam tournaments.

Break Point showed Alcaraz competing in the 2022 U.S. Open, which he would later go on to win and earn himself a world #1 ranking after he defeated Break Point star Casper Ruud.

Djokovic and Alcaraz faced off earlier this year at the French Open, where the Serbian player defeated him in four sets. Djokovic later took back the #1 world ranking from the young Spanish star after he went on to win the French Open.

Alcaraz has remained one of the youngest players to reach this height in tennis in recent years. At the age of 20, he has now won both the U.S. Open and Wimbledon; he has also been named the youngest player to ever win the Madrid and Miami Opens.

Alcaraz is now set to return to the U.S. Open at the end of August, where he will defend his crown.

“I think he’s got basically best of all three worlds,” Djokovic said of his opponent. “He’s got this mental resilience and really maturity for someone who is 20 years old. It’s quite impressive.”

Per CNN, the former champion went on to say Alcaraz has that “Spanish bull mentality of competitiveness and fighting spirit” that reminded him of fellow tennis pro Rafael Nadal.

For what it’s worth, Alcaraz’s fellow Break Point star, the Tunisian ladies star Ons Jabeur, lost a heartbreaker in the Women’s Finals on Saturday, falling to Marketa Vondrousova in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.

Fingers crossed that we’ll get to see more of Alcaraz’s stunning win in Break Point Season 2, which is expected to premiere in 2024.
