Platonic on Apple TV+ perfectly tees up a second season in its Season 1 finale. But have we seen the last of Will (Seth Rogen) and Sylvia’s (Rose Byrne) hijinks? Or are we just getting started?

Season 1, Episode 10, “When Will Met Sylvia” — which premiered on June 12 — hopped forward a year to show Will, Sylvia, and Charlie (Luke Macfarlane) reuniting at a wedding, where Will dropped some major news of his own, which we’ll hopefully get to see play out in future episodes.

Wondering if Platonic was renewed or canceled? And what a potential Season 2 could look like? Here’s everything we know about the future of the Apple TV+ series.

Platonic Season 2 Renewal Status: Renewed or Canceled?

As of Platonic’s Season 1 finale date (July 12) the series had yet to be renewed or canceled by Apple TV+. In an early Instagram post promoting the series, star Seth Rogen referred to the show as a “limited series,” but that language hasn’t been used in other promotions for the show, so Decider reached out to a rep for the series to inquire about a potential Season 2.

We’ll update this piece once we hear back, but just because there aren’t any updates yet doesn’t mean fans should lose just yet. Though Apple TV+ has canceled several series this year — including Amber Brown, Dear Edward, The Mosquito Coast, Truth Be Told, and Byrne’s other Apple TV+ comedy, Physical — it’s common for streaming services to wait a while after a season concludes to announce a new episode order. Plus, as we said, the Season 1 finale perfectly tees up a Season 2.

When Would Platonic Season 2 Premiere?

Platonic premiered in May 2023, so if renewed, there’s a chance we could see new episodes in Spring 2024. But as is the case with a number of other series, the WGA strike may delay the return of new episodes. While we await more updates, let’s revisit the Season 1 ending and consider what Platonic Season 2 might look like.

Platonic Season 1 Ending Explained: What Will Platonic Season 2 Be About?

Platonic Season 1, Episode 10, “When Will Met Sylvia,” kicks off with Sylvia and Charlie finally finding their dream house. Sure it was the site of a recent triple homicide, but it has three (!!!) bathrooms, so they buy it and promptly throw a housewarming party. Will and Sylvia reconnect at the gathering, but after swearing they saw a UFO while on the roof, they’re mercilessly mocked by friends and family and have a fight.

While Sylvia is thriving in her new murder house, Will is barely surviving his job now that Omar was promoted to brewmaster. And he can’t even express his frustrations by kicking electric scooters down anymore, because a PYGYN employee caught him in the act and confronted him. After Sylvia receives a call inquiring about Johnny Rev Time’s Up complaints, she suggests that Will quit his job at the bar and take the woman at Johnny Rev up on her previous offer. So that’s exactly what he does. There’s just one downfall: He has to leave Sylvia and move to San Diego.

The finale jumps forward a year and we learn Sylvia is an incredibly successful event planner with her own company. She’s planning a friend’s wedding and Will (who now has light pink hair) attends with his…fiancé! We reach the point in the wedding when characters normally exchange loving glances with romantic partners or crushes and drift off into a daydream, but Will and Sylvia lock eyes with one another and a heartwarming montage of their friendship plays. They’re platonic! Remember?! When they catch up later in the episode, they pick up right where they left off, and Sylvia agrees to plan Will’s wedding in San Diego. So that would be the main plot point in a potential Season 2.

Platonic is now streaming on Apple TV+.
