Emily Blunt is getting blunt about motherhood. On Bruce Bozzi’s Table for Two iHeartPodcast, Blunt shared the news that she is taking a break from acting in order to enjoy some much-needed family time, particularly with her two daughters and her husband, fellow actor John Krasinski.

After Bozzi asked her how she manages her career while being a mother, she explained, “Not always well, you know.”

Blunt continued, “It’s one of those things when people are like, ‘How do you balance it?’ I never feel like I’m doing it right, you know. But this year I’m not working.”

Blunt and Krasinski had their first daughter, Hazel, in 2014, and their second daughter, Violet, two years later in 2016.

While raising her daughters, Blunt has taken part in an array of big-title projects, including Mary Poppins Returns, The English, and A Quiet Place and A Quiet Place Part II, which were both directed by Krasinski.

In the interview with Bozzi, Blunt, who acknowledged that she has “worked quite a bit,” noted that her eldest daughter, who is now nine years old, is “in the last year of single digits.” Blunt said she feels that “there’s cornerstones to their day that is so important when they’re little.”

“I just need to be there for all of them,” she added. “For a good stretch. And I just felt that in my bones.”

Discussing the “guilt” experienced by mothers pursuing professional goals outside of motherhood, Blunt said that wants her own daughters “to grow up and find something they adore doing.”

Despite her upcoming acting hiatus, Blunt will be on the big screen in just a matter of days when she stars in Oppenheimer, which debuts July 21.

Blunt will also be reprising her role as Evelyn Abbott in A Quiet Place: Day One under the direction of her husband, which has a release date of March 8, 2024
