What the Decider Team is Adding to Their Carts for Amazon Prime Day 2023

All the products and services on this page were chosen by a Decider editor, but we may be compensated and/or receive an affiliate commission on some items if you decide to buy.

It’s almost Prime Day, Amazon’s annual two-day shopping blowout that’s typically only rivaled by Black Friday in terms of the number of products on sale and the deals being offered.

As Decider’s commerce writer/reporter, I’ll be helping all of you, our dear readers, comb through the deals to find the ones worth spending your money on, but I’m not the only one on Team Decider shopping the sale.

So I asked around: what are you planning on adding to your carts on Prime Day 2023?

Below, you can check out some of the things the Decider staff is purchasing over the next two days.

As a reminder, you’ll need to be an Amazon Prime subscriber to take advantage of the deals, but as soon as you are, it’s happy shopping for the next 48 hours!

I’ve been eyeing the Echo Pop since Amazon released it a few months ago. I have a small office I’ve been meaning to get a speaker for — it’s the perfect space for the Echo Pop! And how cute is that purple color?! — Angela Tricarico, Commerce Writer/Reporter

  • Kindle Paperwhite

Between Verity by Colleen Hoover and Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid — which became its own Prime Video series earlier this year — I have been on such a reading kick. Getting to splurge (and save) on a new Kindle, where I can store all my books in one place, would make the perfect addition to both my beach days and my nighttime routine! — Samantha Nungesser, News Writer

  • CiBest Native 1080P Outdoor Mini Projector

After 17 years living in New York City, I have finally leveled up to an apartment with private outdoor space. Am I rich? No — I just live way, way out in Queens! But it’s worth it to have a functioning patio with furniture and imported Palm Springs vibes. Now I just need an outdoor projector so I can watch Star Wars as it was intended: outdoors, by the light and smell of a citronella candle. — Brett White, Senior Reporter/Producer

  • JOISCOPE Double Rods Portable Garment Rack

My tiny NYC apartment may not have a closet big enough for my excessive amount of clothing, but the Joiscope clothing rack has absolutely saved me — and the sleek, black design also doubles as decor! With two hanging rods, a shoe rack, shelves, and knobs to hang bags or hats on, this contraption manages to pack my entire wardrobe in one aesthetically-pleasing place. — Emma Becker, Editorial Intern

  • BLUEAIR Pure 411 Genuine Replacement Filter

My beloved BLUEAIR air purifier helps keep my tiny apartment clean of dust and dander, but it had to work overtime during the recent wildfire smoke situation in the city. I’ve been waiting for the right time to pounce on some replacement filters and am eager to hook my little workhorse appliance up with the very best. — Meghan O’Keefe, Senior Critic

  • Rounders

The new season of The Bear has inspired a slew of amaetur chefs to step up their culinary game, but Carmy and company have motivated me to revisit one of my all-time favorite films: Rounders. The poster for the beloved Matt Damon/Edward Norton ’90s movie can be seen in Episode 1, but the more sublte nod to John Dahl’s cult classic is the use of “Baby I’m a Big Star Now” (the song that plays during the film’s credits) in the second episode of season two. — Josh Sorokach, Senior Writer/Producer

  • Keurig K-Iced Single Serve Coffee Maker

As the weather gets hotter, there is nothing I crave more than a refreshing iced coffee. Lucky for me, this Keurig iced coffee maker is on sale for Prime Day! I can’t wait to start off every morning with a freshly brewed iced coffee without having to stop at Dunkin’ or Starbucks on my way to work. Plus, it comes in two different colors! — Alex Vena, News Reporter

  • Top Gun: Maverick 2-Movie Collection (4K UHD)

Prime Day is as good for those big ticket items as it is for smaller items, like this 4K DVD set of Top Gun and Top Gun: Maverick. I haven’t bought physical media in years (which might prove to be a mistake as more and more things disappear from streaming), but how could I not finally pick up a DVD copy of one of my all-time favorite movies (and it’s equally incredible sequel!) and save a few bucks at the same time? — Angela Tricarico, Commerce Writer/Reporter

  • ASNUG Neck Fan

This year, my partner checked off one item on his NYC bucket list by buying a partial season ticket package to the New York Mets. While he’s pumped to cheer on the team (in good times and in bad times), he’s not looking forward to sitting in the beating sun during July and August. Even though this portable neck fan won’t win him any style points with Francisco Lindor, it’ll help him keep cool all summer long. — Karen Kemmerle, Social Media Director

  • 100FT Smart LED Strip Lights

I recently moved into a new place and set my focus on one thing: mood lighting. I wasn’t sure about getting LED strips for the apartment, but I was sold on the fact that this product provides 20 different lighting options with dimming control. We installed it under the top cabinets to provide additional lighting in the kitchen while also keeping the LED strips hidden. Now, it helps set the ambiance for the whole apartment. — Radhamely De Leon, News Reporter

  • Criterion Collection Blu-rays

    AFTER HOURS CRITERION COLLECTION
    Photo: Criterion Collection

Streaming is great, don’t get us wrong, but there’s also a time and place for “physical media.” Enter the Criterion Collection, which has been working to curate the best of what cinema has to offer going back to the Laserdisc days. They built their reputation showcasing arthouse and world cinema, but they’ve also worked hard to ensure that they give the storied Criterion treatment to mainstream faves, too. (The Princess Bride! Thelma & Louise!) Personally, I’ve been working on my collection since the DVD days of the late ’90s, and have been anxiously awaiting their upcoming pristine 4K re-release of Martin Scorsese’s mid-’80s downtown NYC fever dream After Hours, which won’t officially be released until August but is available at 50% off right now.—Mark Graham
