Actor Sergio Calderón died this morning at the age of 77 following a decades-long career in film and television.

His death was confirmed by Deadline, which reported that the actor died Wednesday (May 31) morning “surrounded by family,” per his spokesperson.

Calderón may be most well known for his role as Jose in Men in Black, in which his character — whose head is stuck on the end of a sword — shares a scene with Tommy Lee Jones. He celebrated the blockbuster’s 25-year anniversary in 2022 with a tweet calling it “one of the greatest movies I worked in.”

He also played Captain Eduardo Villanueva in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End in 2007 alongside rock and roll legend Keith Richards. Calderón shared a picture behind the scenes with Richards, joking, “If someone tries to take your gun, it better be someone like #KeithRichards a true #Legend!”

The actor got his start in 1970 when he landed his first-ever acting role in John Huston‘s movie Bridge in the Jungle. Since then, he has enjoyed a decades-long career with both English and Spanish roles.

Calderón also appeared in The A-Team pilot as Malavida Valdez, one of the first villains the A-Team faced in the series.

Most recently, Calderón has appeared in The Seven Faces of Jane and the 2022 television series The Resort. Prior to that, he enjoyed small roles in Little Fockers and The Ruins.
