Tony Shalhoub Stages a ‘Monk’-‘Maisel’ Reunion in Exclusive ‘The Company You Keep’ Clip

A familiar face will be keeping the Nicoletti family company on Sunday’s episode of The Company You Keep: Tony Shalhoub.

The Emmy-winning actor, who currently stars in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel as Abe Weissman, joins the cast of ABC’s heist drama as Frankie Musso, the charming ex-fiancé of Fran (Polly Draper).

In Decider’s exclusive clip from Episode 9, “The Truth Shall Set You Free,” Musso makes his grand entrance into the Nicolettis’ Baltimore bar, eliciting sheer delight from Fran; visible jealousy from Leo (William Fichtner); and intrigue/confusion from Charlie (Milo Ventimiglia), Birdie (Sarah Wayne Callies), and Simon (Geoff Stults).

In the video above, you’ll see Musso bursting through the door and effortlessly reviving his fun, flirty dynamic with Fran. Charlie and Birdie watch from across the room as the two share a big embrace, then Musso compliments “Franie Bananie” on her “million-dollar smile” and “legs for days.”

“If you’re gonna flirt with my wife you better butter me up, too,” an irritated Leo chimes in. “Don’t be jealous, Leo. You already got the girl,” Musso says.

Charlie describes Leo and Frankie’s fight for Fran’s heart as “the greatest rivalry Bank Street’s ever seen,” but Musso tells Leo he should probably be thanking him because Fran walking out on him forced him to grow up and make something of himself.

“I owe all my success to you, doll,” Musso says, raising a glass to Fran. “You’re welcome,” she replies with a smile. Uh oh, Tony Shalhoub is about to shake things up! And I, for one, can’t wait to see how things play out.

The official logline for The Company You Keep‘s April 30 episode is as follows: “Realizing they want the same thing, Emma and Daphne agree to work together to take down the Maguires. Later, the Nicolettis consider selling the bar when a great offer comes their way, and David announces he is done with politics.” It’s unclear what exactly Frankie Musso’s presence will entail, or whether he’ll play some part in the family thinking about selling the bar, but Shalhoub will reportedly recur in a two-episode arc. Will we see flashbacks? Will he do a heist?! We can only hope.

Fans of Shalhoub’s know that his guest role in The Company You Keep is especially exciting because he starred alongside Polly Draper before in an episode of Monk and Milo Ventimiglia had a guest role on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. The two didn’t share any scenes in Amy Sherman-Palladino’s series, so fans will be excited to watch Midge’s dad and her one-time fling act alongside each other in The Company You Keep. (Especially after Ventimiglia shared scenes with Luke Kirby, who plays Lenny Bruce on Maisel, earlier in the season.)
