Jamie Foxx Was Target of a $40,000 Scam on Set of New “Nightmare” Netflix Movie: Report

The set of Netflix’s next big-budget movie Back in Action has been described as a “nightmare.” According to a new report from The Daily Mail, star and executive producer Jamie Foxx was solicited for a money scam while on set of the action comedy.

An employee on set of the movie was allegedly fired and an investigation was launched after someone asked Foxx for £33,000 in cash, which translates to roughly $35,000, per The Daily Mail

The source stated that the staffer “tried to offer up a Rolex watch as part of the deal.” Foxx allegedly called the cops on the employee.

The Sun speculated that the employee may be involved in similar scams that have targeted celebrities in the past.

It was also alleged that the movie shoot has been affected by weather delays and poor attitudes, with one source saying, “This film has been a bit of a nightmare.”

In an earlier report, an insider told The Daily Mail that Cameron Diaz — also set to star — is fed up with the “drama and confrontation” on set after rumors of an alleged tantrum from Foxx began to circulate. He reportedly fired an executive producer, two directors and his driver.

“These back-to-back 10-hour workdays have been a lot on her and she hates being away from Raddix,” the insider said, referring to Diaz’s daughter, whom she shares with husband Benji Madden.

Netflix announced the action comedy, written and directed by Seth Gordon, last year. In addition to Foxx and Diaz, Back in Action is set to star Andrew Scott, Jamie Demetriou, McKenna Roberts, Rylan Jackson, Kyle Chandler and Glenn Close. The movie reunites Foxx with Horrible Bosses director Gordon.

Back in Action also signifies Diaz’s return to acting after she announced her retirement in 2018. She previously starred alongside Foxx in the 2014 film adaptation of Annie

When teasing her involvement in the film, Diaz shared in a June 2022 Instagram Story, “Jamie Foxx, only you could get me back in action!!! I can’t frickin wait it’s gonna be a blast!” per Variety.

Back in Action isn’t the only movie in trouble with the streamer. Nancy Meyers’ upcoming all-star rom-com Paramount Paris has been shelved after the director asked for more money when Netflix offered her $130 million. Deadline reported Sunday (March 19) that Meyers was “still searching for a new home for her film after parting ways” with the streamer.
