Spoiler alert, but Apple TV+‘s Ted Lasso Season 3 finally reveals if our favorite couple — Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) and Keeley Jones (Juno Temple) — stayed together after Season 2’s distressing finale or if they broke up. The short answer is it sucks, and the longer answer is it’s complicated. That’s because one half of this dynamic duo wants to stay together and the other is shockingly done with Ted Lasso‘s most fairy tale-esque romance.

Roy and Keeley broke up and, I’m horrified to say, Roy is the one who broke up with Keeley.

At the end of Ted Lasso Season 2, it seemed that Roy and Keeley had weathered some major relationship storms. Keeley’s ex Jamie Tartt (Phil Dunster) declared his love for her, but then maturely apologized to Roy for overstepping. Roy, however, also found himself hurt when a magazine shoot promoting Keeley’s growing prominence as a PR whiz cut him out of the feature. He confessed to Ted (Jason Sudeikis) and the guys that he was particularly hurt realizing she looked good without him. Ergo, Roy was worried Keeley didn’t need him. The last we see of the couple, Keeley is turning down Roy’s offer to vacation in Europe for six weeks so she can focus on the business. Roy assumes this means they are headed for a split, but Keeley just sees it as a break — as in, a literal much-deserved vacation break for the overworked Roy.

So what happened? Did Roy and Keeley’s love survive??

In the latter half of the Ted Lasso Season 3 premiere, Roy and Keeley have a sit down with Roy’s beloved niece Phoebe (Elodie Blomfield) where they reveal that they did indeed split…and Roy’s the one who wanted the break up. In fact, Keeley tells Phoebe that they’re just on a break and it’s Roy who is adamant that the romance is over. Phoebe accepts this news with mature grace, but later tells her uncle she thinks he’s being “stupid.”

And Phoebe’s right! Roy Kent and Keeley Jones are perfect for each other! There’s no reason for these adorable soulmates to split up except for Roy’s insecurities! And Ted Lasso star Brett Goldstein agrees!

“As a fan, I love Roy and Keeley. I am devastated. I’m with Phoebe all the way,” Goldstein told Decider during a recent interview. “Awful. Horrendous. Devastating. No, thank you.”

So what will happen next? Will Ted Lasso really keep Roy and Keeley apart forever? Or will the rest of Ted Lasso Season 3 follow the two lovebirds as they get back together? (And how will Jamie Tartt factor into this on-going saga?)

All we know is that Phoebe is 100% correct. Roy Kent is being stupid.
