Da Brat Shocks Sherri Shepherd With Pregnancy Announcement on ‘Sherri’

Da Brat officially has a bun in the oven. The 48-year-old rapper announced that she is expecting her first child with wife Jesseca “Judy” Harris-Dupart while appearing on today’s episode of Sherri.

The couple revealed the news to host Sherri Shepherd as they gifted her a shirt that said, “I’m going to be an auntie,” along with an ultrasound photo of their baby. Meanwhile, the talk show host, who was overcome with emotion, burst into hysterics as she sent the show to a commercial break so she could “collect” herself.

When they returned, the couple, who wed last February, opened up about their fertility journey, revealing that Harris-Dupart was hospitalized for hyperstimulation ovarian syndrome after the condition caused blood clots to form in her lungs.

“It was very scary. Can you imagine feeling like you’re going to lose your wife?” Da Brat told Shepherd. “She called her kids to tell them she loved them, which really freaked me out. Like, I can’t lose you right now.  It was very emotional and very scary.”

The “Funkdafied” rapper, who is currently five months pregnant, then said she had “fibroids” and “polyps” in her uterus, prompting her to have surgery. She revealed they had also suffered a previous miscarriage.

As for why Harris-Dupart, who is the CEO of Kaleidoscope Hair Products, decided that Da Brat should carry the baby instead of her, she pointed out her wife’s “nurturing” personality.

“I felt like she needed to have the experience. I’ve birthed three children … having a baby inside of you and having a human come out of you is just an experience that’s not even explainable,” she said. “I didn’t want us to go through this life and have her not be able to experience that.”

At the end of their time on Sherri, Da Brat said they wouldn’t announce their pregnancy “anywhere else,” before going on to praise the talk show host.

“You’re genuine. There are a lot of fake people in Hollywood,” she said. “You keep it 100 all the time. I can talk to you about anything, I appreciate you, I love you and we wouldn’t do it anywhere else.”

Sherri airs on weekdays at 10 a.m. ET on FOX. You can watch the full clip above.
