‘The View’ Freaks out Edie Falco by Turning Carmela Soprano Into an ‘Avatar’ Character

Edie Falco snagged a plum role in one of the biggest movies of the year, but the actress wasn’t so thrilled about the job when she first learned about it. During an appearance on today’s episode of The View, Falco told the co-hosts she was disappointed to find she would not be playing one of the tall, blue Na’vi people in Avatar: The Way of Water, but was cast as General Frances Ardmore instead.

Falco’s character, one of the few humans in the film and a “villain” of the movie, leads the military operation at the center of the Avatar sequel. While speaking with Falco, co-host Sunny Hostin told her, “I heard you were a little disappointed when you first found out who you’d be playing.”

After nodding, the actress admitted, “Well, I wanted to be blue,” with a shrug, before adding, “I was excited. I was going to be blue and very tall. I didn’t get either of those things.”

Referring to her character’s Alien-esque look, she noted, “But I did get that exoskeleton, and that was pretty cool.”

At the end of the segment, The View sent Falco off with the best holiday gift of all: the blue look she always wanted. Sara Haines told Falco, “Before you go, one thing.  We did not want you to leave disappointed. When you were cast, you said you were upset because you were not one of the blue people in Avatar. We wanted to give you a little taste of what it would be like for some of your characters.”

Behind Falco and the co-hosts at the Hot Topics table, images of a blue Nurse Jackie from Nurse Jackie, Hillary Clinton from American Crime Story: Impeachment and Carmela from The Sopranos appeared onscreen as Falco clasped her hands, threw her head back and laughed.

“Do you feel better now?” Haines asked, as Falco replied, “Not so much, actually.”

The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
