Jay Leno Hospitalized After Burning His Face in Gasoline Fire

Jay Leno is reportedly undergoing treatment at a burn center after injuring his face at a car garage in Los Angeles over the weekend. The comedian was badly burned on Sunday (Nov. 13) when one of his cars suddenly erupted in the garage, catching the left side of his face, according to TMZ.

Leno confirmed the news initially reported by TMZ, telling Variety in a statement, “I got some serious burns from a gasoline fire. I am ok. Just need a week or two to get back on my feet.”

TMZ reports that while Leno suffered burns to his face, his eye and ear were not “penetrated” by the flames. Following the gasoline fire, Leno was transported to Grossman Burn Center and canceled his scheduled appearances for the week, including a conference in Las Vegas for The Financial Brand.

Leno was slated to appear at the event on Sunday, but TMZ reports that organizers explained a “very serious medical emergency” kept him from participating. In an email sent out to attendees and obtained by People, organizers wrote, “His family was not able to provide us very many details, but there was a very serious medical emergency that is preventing Jay from traveling. All we know is that he is alive, so our prayers go out to him and his family tonight.”

No additional details were immediately available.

Leno’s love for cars is well-known; as of June 2022, the comedian owns more than 180 vehicles and artifacts, per U.S. News & World Report. After his run as host of The Tonight Show ended in 2014, he launched Jay Leno’s Garagea documentary series that ran from 2015 through 2020.

The series shifted Leno’s focus from late night to his passion for collecting cars, and followed the comedian as he sought new additions to his collection and welcomed guests like Kelly Clarkson and President Joe Biden to join him along the way.
