Lauren Conrad Apologizes to Kristin Cavallari Over Slut Remarks on ‘Laguna Beach’

Laguna Beach fans can rest easy now that peace seems to be restored. On the season 1 finale of Kristin Cavallari and Stephen Colletti’s podcast Back to the Beach, in which the two exes go through every episode of Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County, a very special guest came to the table to reveal all: Lauren Conrad, known for being the third point on the love triangle between Colletti and Cavallari.

Conrad spoke about everything, from her thoughts on her own portrayal to that infamous Cabo episode in season 1. During the episode, titled “What Happens in Cabo,” the cast members head to Cabo, Mexico for spring break. In one specific scene, Cavallari appears to be very drunk and makes out with another guy, prompting angry boyfriend Colletti to call her a slut. In a later scene with Colletti, Conrad refers to Cavallari as “wearing a skirt and a little thong and she’s up there, like on the pole. She knows that’s slutty.”

When asked about an episode she would redo, Conrad seemed to apologize to Cavallari for her actions in Cabo. “My biggest regret – I was watching it, I called you a slut. I’m so sorry,” Conrad sincerely told Cavallari. She then went on to say how she “couldn’t believe I did that because I think where I’m at now like I never call another woman that or girl” and described her actions as “embarrassing” and “gross.”

Cavallari, who thanked her, also admitted to slut-shaming Conrad in a later episode. “I said some really dumb stuff,” Cavallari said, before explaining how she “wasn’t confident at all. I was actually so insecure and I took that out on you in a lot of ways. And so I am sorry for that because I said some horrible things.”

The two shared a laugh before Colletti chimed in to explain how it was never Conrad or Cavallari’s faults and that it was all on the producers. “The thing with the show are the moments where some of those lines that we pop off and whether we’re trying to get a laugh from our friends and just all those insecurities, that’s what [the producers are] looking for and that’s what they’re going to use. It’s almost like you could say it in passing like, almost mumble it. It’s still going to find its way to air,” he told them.

Cavallari also admitted at the beginning of the episode to Conrad that, “you and I never really had any beef” and that MTV took the truth of the drama and “made it way worse than it ever would have been,” and Conrad agreed. Needless to say it’s clear that there was never anything really going on and there’s no bad blood between anyone.

Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County ran from 2004 to 2006 on MTV before spinning-off into The Hills, which followed many of the main cast members in Los Angeles. On Back to the Beach, a Dear Media Original Podcast, Cavallari and Colletti have been rewatching every episode and sharing their thoughts, with other members of the cast appearing to reveal what really happened during filming.
