Is ‘Tell Me Lies’ a Limited Series or Will There Be a Season 2?

UPDATE 11/29/22: Hulu has announced that Tell Me Lies has been renewed for a Season 2. Read on to learn what showrunner Meaghan Oppenheimer hopes to see in a second season.

Can’t get enough of Hulu’s twisted drama, Tell Me Lies? You’re not alone.

The toxic coming-of-age story based off of Carola Lovering’s 2018 best-selling novel follows Lucy Albright (Grace Van Patten) and Stephen DeMarco’s (Jackson White) relationship over the span of eight years. We meet Lucy, Stephen, and their friends in college. We watch a life-changing tragedy take place. And we check in with the group at a wedding post-graduation.

Created by Meaghan Oppenheimer and executive produced by Emma Roberts, Tell Me Lies is packed with tons of drama, sex scenes, and a growing web of lies. With the Season 1 finale set to stream on Wednesday, October 26, you’re likely wondering if Tell Me Lies is a limited series or if there’s a Season 2 in your future. Here’s everything we know about a possible Tell Me Lies return.

Is Tell Me Lies a Limited Series?

No! Tell Me Lies was not released as a limited series. Season 1 will consist of 10 episodes, and Decider reached out to a representative of the show to inquire about a potential Season 2. Good news, Tell Me Lies fans…

Will There Be a Tell Me Lies Season 2?

Though Tell Me Lies hasn’t officially been renewed for a Season 2, that’s not to say it isn’t a possibility. A PR rep for the show told Decider there is potential for a Season 2, and having seen screeners, I can confirm — without spoiling anything — that more than a few burning questions linger after the final credits roll on the Season 1 finale. If a Season 2 is greenlit, I have no doubts that the creative team will have lots to explore and unpack. That said, since the series is based on a book, there’s always a chance that the author and show creator may want to stay true to novel’s timeline and leave Lucy, Stephen, and their pals as they are at the end of Season 1.

When chatting with showrunner Meaghan Oppenheimer about the Season 1 finale in October, she told Decider she had big plans for a Season 2. “I have a lot planned — both in the college years, and also the adult years. I think getting to see more of Lucy’s life as an adult, and what her reaction is as Stephen kind of re-enters her life after years will be interesting,” she said.

“I’m hoping the start of Season 2 will be Lucy’s redemption tour towards Bree, like really realizing how much she has betrayed her. Not just with Evan…she’s just taken her for granted a lot,” Oppenheimer shared later on in the Zoom interview. She also said fans would get to see more of the college years, but also receive some much-needed insight into those post-college mysteries. “I want to go through all of college. So all the unanswered questions where people are like, ‘How the heck did that come to be?’ We will dive into all of those things: How did Stephen get together with Lydia? Where did his relationship with Diana go? When was the last time Lucy and Steven actually were together? Because it wasn’t the Hawaiian party. There’s more entanglement. That wasn’t their last breakup, I would say,” Oppenheimer explained. “So yes, I have a lot planned. I was just with some of the writers, and we were brainstorming all this crazy shit we could do. We have a lot of fun ideas, and we’ll hopefully see a lot more of the ensemble as well. I’ve been really happy with the audience response to some of them, so I think getting to explore their lives more will be really nice.”

Decider will update this article with any news related to a Tell Me Lies renewal.
