And to mark today’s last WCW of August 2022, we’re talking about a royally remarkable woman who has been putting out consistently engaging and evocative work on screens big and small over the past two decades of career, and who shows no signs of slowing down any time soon. So without further ado, give it up for the gifted actress and lovely human being that is your latest WCW, the radiant Cynthia Addai-Robinson!

WHY WE’RE CRUSHING: Addai-Robinson stars as Míriel in the highly-anticipated upcoming Amazon Prime Video Original title The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which premieres on the platform this Thursday on September 1. Based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s beloved The Lord of the Rings novel and its appendices, this adventure fantasy series revolves around the history of Middle-earth and takes places thousands of years before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, beginning when the continent was in a period of relative peace. The show will explore the significant events of the land’s Second Age, including the creation of the titular Rings of Power, the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron, the fall of the island kingdom of Númenor, and the final alliance between Men and Elves.

Featuring a skilled ensemble cast that includes Addai-Robinson, Morfydd Clark, Markella Kavenagh, Owain Arthur, Robert Aramayo, Lenny Henry, Nazanin Boniadi, Markella Kavenagh, Charlie Vickers, and Ismael Cruz Córdova, the new series is sure to entrance viewers with the exploits and tales of characters both new and familiar as they’re transported to Tolkien’s rich and imaginative world as it’s never been seen before. WHERE YOU’VE SEEN HER BEFORE: Addai-Robinson’s professional onscreen career began in 2002, when she appeared as Susan in an episode of CBS drama series The Education of Max Bickford. Over the next several years, she continued to accumulate guest appearances on TV shows like Law & Order: Trial by Jury, Law & Order: Criminal IntentJusticeCSI: MiamiDirtEntourage, and Life all before making her feature film debut as Milena in 2009 drama Mississippi Damned. That same year, in addition to appearing in episodes of Numb3rs and CSI: NY, she earned a recurring role as Debbie/Nurse in sci-fi drama series FlashForward, paving the way for even more recurring roles in shows like SpartacusThe Vampire DiariesArrowTexas RisingShooterChicago Med, and Power.

Addai-Robinson has also continued to break into the world of film over the years, acting in features like 2011 action thriller Colombiana, 2013 sci-fi action Star Trek Into Darkness, 2016 action-thriller The Accountant, and 2018 comedy drama Closure. Most recently, she starred in 2020 thriller film Always and Forever, and also appeared in an episode of ABC crime drama Stumptown that same year. Considering the incredible body of work she has built up so far as well as looking forward to the projects she has coming out on the near horizon, we have no doubt that Addai-Robinson is a hard-working and talented actress who has many more successes and exceptional performances ahead of her in the years to come.

Based on Grant Ginder’s 2016 novel of the same name, The People We Hate at the Wedding is a comedy about Alice (Kristen Bell) and Paul (Ben Platt), two struggling American siblings who reluctantly agree to join their mother (Allison Janney) in attending their estranged, wealthy half-sister’s wedding in the British countryside, where it doesn’t take long for family tensions to run high.
