Lili Reinhart Says You Can’t Kiss With Tongue on ‘Riverdale’? So Explain This

Many things have happened in Riverdale over the last six seasons, but, according to Lili Reinhart, a French kiss is not one of them. Yet despite her claims that the CW squashes the opportunity to include tongue, we can’t help but think about that steamy scene between Madelaine Petsch and Vanessa Morgan in the Season 6 finale, where they did use a lot of tongue.

During an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Reinhart, who plays Betty Cooper in the CW series and currently stars in the film Look Both Ways, talked about the ways in which the show’s kisses are limited.

“You can only be so much of an adult on a CW show, because you’re not even really allowed to kiss with tongue,” she said. “That aspect of things [is] a little different.”

However, the rules seemed to be bent a bit for Petsch and Morgan, who perhaps didn’t get the memo?

Here’s how the French kiss in question came about… In order to stop a comet hurtling towards Riverdale, Cheryl Blossom (Petsch) struck a deal with the spirit of her ancestor Abigail (also Petsch): Abigail agreed to help her, but only if she could spend one more night with her deceased lover Thomasina Topaz (Morgan). In order to do that, Abigail’s spirit needed to be put into Cheryl’s body, and Thomasina’s spirit needed to be put into her ancestor’s body, Toni (also Morgan), who is also Cheryl’s ex-girlfriend. Who is currently married. But whatever. In any case, they do the spirit transfer, and Abigail and Thomasina spend one tempestuous night together, complete with full on tongue kissing, as seen below:

Seems pretty adult to me, Lili. But, I suppose since there’s only one more season until the show officially bids farewell, they have to go out with a bang — literally.

Riverdale Season 6 is currently streaming on Netflix, as is Look Both Ways.
